2nd Serbian Hive Meetup .:. Phβs meetups π«π»
At the beginning of the year, I created a hefty goal for the number of Hive meetups this year... As I do like to meet other Hivians in person, I set a goal of attending at least 5 meetups during 2025! It wasn't just a random number as I had plans to attend some of the regulars like BuzzParty, HiveFest, and I wanted to visit the Aachen meetup this year... Along with those 3, I had in mind to do the 2nd Hive Meetup in Serbia... The 5th meetup was "stretching" myself... π
So, how am I doing til now? I did attend BuzzParty in Graz, Aachen, and Kuala Lumpur (HiveFest) are under a big question mark, but I did my Serbian meetup this week!!! Second Hive meetup checked! β Before going into details and sharing photos, I would like to thank @guiltyparties, who created a small banner for this meetup (you will see it in the photos), without even asking for it! He and @tibfox offered to send some merch for the meetup, but it wasn't enough time to receive them as I did the announcement post a bit too late... We will do the merch next year!
What you can see in the photo above was our meeting point, in a small town, Apatin, in Serbia... A small square with the world-famous scientist Nikola Tesla in the middle, and with a huge mural on the building in the background...
This was the 2nd meetup in Serbia, and slowly it is turning into an annual event... :) This time, we had "international attendees" and some pleasant surprise as I didn't know that we would have an additional Hivier there... I do count as a "local", but after living over 13 years abroad, I was more like one of the visitors, too... We had @duskobgd and @bil.prag from Serbia, @flurroland, who lives in Canada, and @mipiano and me, visiting our families, coming from Spain!
The weather was tricky that morning, with a couple of short showers, so almost immediately after we met, we found the closest bar (interestingly, it was called Piano Bar!) to take cover and warm up with coffee... Yes, warm up in the middle of summer! Btw. Do you remember how it was last year at the Serbian meetup? Check out here! π
As usual, despite @mipiano reminding me every 10 minutes, I forgot to take photos... π You know how it goes with having friends around and meeting some of them for the first time... You never know when you will meet them again, and you want to absorb and enjoy their company as much as possible, engaging in conversation, without thinking about the time and space... π
So these 3 photos are literally the only ones that I took from our walk on the main street of the town... There were a couple of other buildings to show (except the Catholic church that you see in the photo above), and I hope that other participants will share more in their posts (if they share)... To be honest, it's hard to "compete" with the professional photographer as @bil.prag! As you can see in the photo above, @duskobgd is trying to absorb some of the knowledge, but with our mobile phones, we didn't have a chance... π
In our small town, there are some really strange sculptures, like this one... Nobody knows what it represents, which leaves it to our imaginations... The best guess was that it could be a portal to other dimensions... So, we sent Hivian to spread the word to other civilizations about our social media blockchain... π·
The river Danube is our Amazon of Europe, and having it on the doorstep in this small town is a privilege... It was a fishing town in the past, and that's why there was that big mural from the beginning of the post... It is still a good place for fishing, but also, it is a nice stop for cycling enthusiasts who like to cycle through nature...
One of the biggest and oldest breweries in the Balkans is situated here, with a tradition of making beer for over 250 years! In those days, there was a big German influence, and knowing that, having a brewery here was a logical move... π

@mipiano trying to hide from the camera π
The new Orthodox church is situated at the banks of the river Danube (that small blue spot on the left)... The river is big, but I didn't have time to take a photo at this moment as the sky was at the point of releasing a big shower over us... As a matter of fact, after taking this photo, we were running toward the restaurant as it started to rain... but also, as we were hungry... hahahahaha

my dish... chicken meat with cheese and ham wrapped in bacon...
And then we had a few minutes of silence as everyone was hungry and eating lunch! π
After we filled our tummies, the (couple of) next stop was nature! The old course of the Danube, which is now a kind of canal... A small restaurant in the back, a few fishing boats (no motorboats allowed), forest, and water...
Discussions about HIVE and photography continued...
It wasn't Saturday when the meetup took place, but it was definitely a Caturday! This was just one of the cats that we met during the day... This cat came all over the dock just to be cuddled! lol... The one that we met during lunch got more than cuddles, and she was also happy after the encounter... π΄
The next stop was back to the river Danube! At least, I did some decent photography there, as I completely forgot to take photos during lunch, as the restaurant was on the river with beautiful views! π€¦ββ (The thumbnail photo from my announcement post for the meetup was taken from that spot, restaurant)...
...back to the current photos... This place is a couple of kilometers out of the town, where locals have their weekend cottages... During summer, it's much easier (and fresher) to spend time by the water/river than in the apartment buildings!
You can't beat the forest shade and refreshing water...
There was an idea to organize one of the next Hive Fests on the cruiser... Maybe it doesn't have to be an ocean cruiser, we can do something at a place like this one! Cruising from Germany to the Black Sea, with a river boat!

Man at work!
I don't know about you, but this is something that I have never seen! Yes, there is a rowing machine in the gym, but rowing in a boat, in nature, on firm ground is a very rare occurrence... π

Did the boat move?
We are again on one of the old Danube paths... What you can see are the remains of the old water pump/mill, which was used over a century ago... Today, it is forgotten, in the middle of the forest, but the building is still standing!
Some of the Hivers dared to go inside and do some Urban Exploring in @slobberchops' style! π We are patiently waiting for photos from the inside...
We had another spot on our busy daily schedule to visit... Of course, I sucked there too as I didn't take photos... lol... It was a bar/restaurant located on the local beach, and the only photo that I took was this small decorative boat at the entrance/exit...

It was getting dark when we finished the meetup... The main street is empty without Hivians
When we came back to the town, it was time to say goodbye to others... I had a great time hanging out with other Hivians, and I hope we will repeat something similar next year... If there are more interested people, maybe this will turn into a more massive Hive meetup... Serbia had a turbulent history (and maybe present), but there are some nice places to visit and people are kind in general... Nature is beautiful, and I hope this post (and I hope posts from other participants) will help you to find out more about it!
Until the next Hive meetup! Where can I meet YOU? π
Thank you for your time.

The mix of local and international participants truly showcases the worldwide influence of the Hive network :)
Such a small group, but such a worldwide "coverage" π
Nice. :) That restaurant really is something. Beautiful scenary.
You should come once with your family... It's a great place to spend time in nature with loved ones!
We missed you! π
Nice place and friendly people! ππΊ Jelen je inaΔe super!
I hope you had a good time; it looks like it from the photos.
Oh, I've already 90% convinced my wife that we're going to Alicante in May. π
We had a great time and did a lot of walking in nature! Btw, even @bil.prag didn't complain that much, and you know how he is... π
Wooohooo... Sun, beach, Spain... It shouldn't be that hard to "convince" her... π
i complained more the next day. as it was super hot :D those few showers actually made it better.
I got home to a dying monitor and 3 full days of music photos so i still didn't transfer photos, but it looks like you did a better job in documenting things :D my photos will be cat, cat, church, portal :D
We were so lucky with the weather this year! We didn't burn and we didn't get wet... It was perfect...
Not sure about your photos, but I bet there will be at least a few gems... π
my skin is not peeling so that is a plus :D
Yeah, but a few times I didn't do that successfully, for example while eating... ππ
And all of that without a real oar π
Of course the boat moved!!! Why the doubts? π€·ββοΈ
π
You did an awesome post about this meetup! π
I have some additional photos that I can post too... If you want? π
that city looks quiet and clean, the ortodox church was impressive to be on a small town, pretty big
the food on that restaurant looks tasty too, everyone with chips π
Heheheh... I didn't pay attention that everyone had French fries... Potatoes are definitely more popular than rice or other vegetables...
The town itself is rather small, but the best things are around it.. That's why we spent more time in nature! π
I wonder what @duskobgd was saying to make @mipiano so shocked. π€£
I see the cruise on the Danube, I can get on board with that. I loved the whole post, in the end you didn't need any more photos than you took. You can see that you're all enjoying yourselves, which is the most important thing.

π
I don't usually tell scary stories... Although I know them π
Scary stories are best told around a campfire rather than in cafΓ©s. π
Indeed π
But we shouldn't light a fire in this heat π₯ππ§―
Hahahaha... I think she was hiding from the camera, but maybe I'm wrong... We did mention some scary stories like car engine failures... That brings some bad memories... π€£
All in all, it was a great small meetup... And regarding cruising on the Danube, I would rather go there than on the ocean or sea... π€£
Car engine failures are nightmare scenarios, especially in holiday travel, I know that very well. π« I hope you keep them in memories only.
I miss a single thing in Danube to be perfect: the waves sound. π
I am kind of jealous to be honest. I must be nice to see the people whose blogs you are reading online. Maybe one day.
It would be great to have HiveFest in Turkiye... I would like to visit the country, but somehow, always something else is getting in between... Having HF would fasten up the process...
Also, Alicante in May is a perfect getaway... Start making plans and sorting paperwork... :)
It sounds like a great meetup, and I glad you guys enjoyed traveling across Serbia. The sites you visited looked beautiful.
Well, I didn't travel a lot, but the rest of the guys had to make an effort to get to the meetup... :) On the other side, the short excursions around the town's nature were worth it! π
Wow! This is great to meet them personalβ¦ I never met any hiver in personal π
I hope you will have chance to meet Hivians IRL! It's great to connect usernames with faces... π
Yeah β¦ hope Iβll get that opportunity ππ
It looks worth going for the food alone!!!
I will not lie to you.... Food was fantastic! π
But, the company was great too! π
Beautiful photos, I know you could have uploaded a whole lot more if you had taken more. Also, meetups like these are important. I just came down reading a post where someone said the Blockchain is dead and has no soul lol, and the fail to realize that it's not all cream and honey out there.
Cannot believe Serbia has such a beautiful tranquility to it.
We are so lucky that we have a social side of the blockchain! That is something that nobody has, and we should use it more as a selling point... Today, the community is the most important thing... Yes, it's not that big here, but it is something...
Looking good, you make me hungry with those pictures, missing some good Balkan food.
Oh, yes! You know what's good in the Balkans! Hehehehe... π π΄
Wow that's a lot of good photos! From the people, to the buildings, to nature, and the food!!! Enjoyed reading this post!

Happy to hear you enjoyed the photos! It was a great, relaxed Hive mini-meetup among friends... π
Oh wow what a fantastic post!
I am always envious of the people who are able to meet up in cool places like this, especially if they are Hive folks. Good to see some friends and new faces in the adventure shots. I think the cats must have been there also for the fish and just cuddle to convince you to share the catch.
Long Live Hive and Meetups!
Thanks for your kind words! Long live Hive meetups! π
I overlooked this many times before, but, as I said, there were around us for different reasons... The one that came on the dock wanted to be cuddled... No food... She came to get some Hive love! π
Firstly I saw post about this meet up from @mipiano and now yours. Honestly it's great to see how people from different parts of the world can gather in such cool place a and make such cozy atmosphere. Such small meetups sometimes looks better coz people can talk closer to each one. And when I read posts from different participants it feels like you see one event from different points of view and can to assemble it in a whole picture like I'm participant of this event too!
I like these small meetups more than big ones... It's exactly as you described, more cozy, more personal, and you have time to talk with everyone on a much deeper level than at big events...
I'm glad that you got the feeling of being there, and I hope we will meet you in one of the next meeups!
I'll try to do everything possible to make it happen!!!
