Totoro no Tonari in Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown
Fans of Studio Ghibli will be familiar with "Totoro," the gentle forest spirit from the 1988 animation, "Tonari no Totoro" (となりのトトロ), or "My Neighbour Totoro" in English.
Well, I was strolling through Nagasaki's Shinchi Chinatown on Sunday morning when I came across a shop-full of totoros! It's a Ghibli-themed gift shop called "Renka".
Here I am, in the photo, standing next to totoro.
"Here I am, Standing next to Totoro" can be translated into Japanese as:
トトロの隣に私が立っています。
Totoro no tonari ni watashi ga tatte-imasu.
And "Totoro no tonari" is a nice reversal of the film title, "Tonari no Totoro"! 🤗
Why am I standing there with an open umbrella on a bright sunny morning? Remember the scene where Satsuki offers Totoro an umbrella while they are waiting at a bus stop in the rain?
