The only time "the earthling" in me is this close to the big blue is when I'm on a boat.

Dark blue means great depth. This observation fills me with anxiety every time I travel to the island of Thassos in Greece.

When I have to be at sea I really wish I was a bird. A seagull!

The blue of the sea seen from land is less spectacular but much more soothing!

The Real Big Blue. The photo was also the poster for the film.

Traveling, once again, through the archive of photographs that have long been waiting for a bit of cleaning and sorting, I came across a few photos that had something in common, something that, paradoxically, reminded me not primarily of the place where they were taken, but, rather, of a film I had seen long ago and almost forgotten. I say almost forgotten and not completely forgotten because some photos I took on vacation made me remember.

Well, the common denominator of these photos is the color blue. The blue of the sea, the blue of the height of the sky, and, above all, the depth of the ocean.

The Big Blue (Le grand bleu)

The rivalry between two children, in the sea, in Greece, continues when they are adults.Source

A film by Luc Besson from 1988. It's been a while since then, almost 35 years! I can't stop my amazement at the speed at which time passes...

I guess you guessed that the film is about the sea. I'm sure those of you who have read my posts already know about my passion for the sea, for the blue...

The Big Blue, in French, Le grand bleu, represents the ocean. The sea, the ocean, and the abyssal depths represent for humans both a fear and an unstoppable fascination.

I can testify to that. I love the sea enormously but I also fear it. The only time I have to be on a boat, a ferry, is when I travel to an island. Thassos, in the Aegean Sea. A short crossing, only half an hour, that makes me shudder with every jolt of the boat.

The photos that reminded me of that film were taken from the ferry. The only place where I could see "the big blue" in reality.

I like the deep blue scene while travelling on a boat towards any directions on the both side of Aegean sea.

The deep is fascinating, all the more so because it is inaccessible to us.

I'm always fascinated by the depth of the ocean each time I stood on the shore and ponder what's deep inside. The concept of The Big Blue is interesting. Great pics, they're alive with blue :)

When a person goes for a walk in such a place, taking water and seeing it gives a lot of peace. A person must visit such a place once a week because it fresh the human mind very much and it is also very very good for human health.

Once a week..., oh. I haven't been there for three years and don't know if I'll ever get there again.

The white bird flying in the middle of the blue ocean seems so free. Love that. I feel a sense of admiration for its simplicity and beauty. Great pictures @bluemoon

It's not easy to capture a flying bird, but you have done a great job, not even you have capture a flying bird, you have captured a bird who is trying to snatch something on the surface on the water, that's an incredible work.
