Giant California Gold as Gold Hits New All Time Highs!

This year has not been the best as far as the alt coins are concerned as we all know. It has been pretty disappointing, but I'm still holding out hope. However, for those of us who enjoy stacking precious metals, it's been a very good year. Gold is hitting new all time highs at around $3,565 per Troy ounce, up more than 40% on the year so far.

businessinsider.com

Silver hasn't been bad either hitting $41.25 earlier today, a few years ago it was around $15 per Troy ounce! Precious metals are a great place to invest!

Now for today's star of the show... This is not something I own but I sure wish I did! This is a 4.5 Troy ounce crystalline gold specimen that someone has removed from it's surrounding quartz matrix. Many times in nature gold nuggets form inside of quartz crystal veins which is considered gold ore. The quartz was dissolved away from around this beautiful California gold specimen. Not only is it huge, it gorgeous!

This was on sale on eBay earlier today with an asking price of $24,000. It received no bids understandably. First off, you don't know how pure the gold is, but being a California nugget it's likely around 22 carat gold (91.6% pure) at current market prices it's worth about $14,700. Your premium would be $9,300 to own this beauty. More than I would pay, but there are collectors who would be willing to shell out that kind of cash for something rare like this.

For those interesting in finding gold in the wild, that's going to fall under one of my prospecting posts. I'm putting a new one together for this next week, so stay tuned! I'll discuss strategies you can use to track down gold veins, it's not usually easy. I have found a couple in my years of prospecting, but none worth actually mining.

Now if you do have a nice gold specimen trapped in quartz I recommend leaving it alone. You can probably get more from a collector as is. But if you want to remove that quartz and get something like I shared here you can learn how in the video below:

I hope you enjoyed my post of the day today. I love gold nuggets, the bigger the better! That's one nice thing about living in California is you can head out into the mountains in the right spots and find gold! It's more work than buying it online, but it's more fun too! Please feel free to leave any comments or ask any questions below. And as always, thank you so much for all of your support, it truly is deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

It almost looks like candy. Like the seafoam stuff that my mom makes around the holidays. There is some big news with gold that I am going to be sharing on Friday this week.

That's how it grows in nature, pretty cool isn't it? Can't wait to hear the big news on Friday!

I am a big believer about Taking Profits in crypto, although funnily enough as a rule I don't do that on Hive, but what about with your precious metals...

Do you take profits, do you have exit points etc. Or is it all a fun collection to pass down to your son etc?

Some silver I might sell if the price gets high enough, but mostly stuff I'm not attached too. I would then convert that cash into gold. So no real offramp, just well end up staying in the family!

You may want to look for the Gold Nuggets some of the Early Miners stashed away and never came back for…

I love metal detecting on tailing piles and nooks and crannies near old mines. You never know what you may find. Although I think over the years I've found more rattlesnakes than nuggets around those old mines! lol

I would try to imagine where I would have hid it and look there…

Sounds like the rooster in the background of the video approves!😇
Personally, I think it’s beautiful with the quartz !😊
I think I would just leave it alone if I had something like this!

I agree, leave the quartz alone, I think you would get much more from a collector in the quartz matrix than removed.

Absolutely!👍😊
It is kind of interesting that acid will dissolve away quartz…😇

Personally i think crypto winter is just around the corner. No real bull market. That’s one cool ass nugget. But that premium is stupid.

I'm starting to think you're right on the winter sneaking up on us. I hope for the best, but it may get much worse before it gets better... I would love to have a nugget like that one, but not at that premium. That's crazy money!

That's a cool nuggy. I would love to get out prospecting again. Most I ever found was a couple tiny pieces in the Dakotas.

It's a lot of fun just to get out and enjoy the day. I've been lucky over the years to hook up with experienced prospectors who had their secret spots and I was invited along. Of course I was sworn to secrecy and I've never divulged a location yet! I think my biggest nugget was about 4 grams, maybe a little bigger that I found in Arizona. Most stuff I've found is tiny around 0.1 grams or smaller. Lots of flour gold which is so hard to clean up as well. I've never looked in the Dakotas, here in California there are some really good spots about an hour or two drive from where I live.

Greetings,

What a lovely post you have here @thebighigg .

Quite interesting these prices which really show no sign of slowing down.

Thank you for the bit of a lesson on Gold as it is found.

Kind Regards, Bleujay

Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Prices will likely continue in the same direction with no real sign of slowing down, the world is just too much of a mess these days. I have always enjoyed gold prospecting and treasure hunting, I used to dive every weekend in the Caribbean looking for sunken treasure... The good old days when I lived in the islands!

Thanks again!
