Why are more businesses built around the concept of "fun"?
It is common for people to set long-term goals, particularly in terms of money and accomplishments, because the future is uncertain, so we try to attach an identity to it by creating roadmaps.
It is simple: a first-year university student envisions themselves graduating in five years and continuing on to pursue another degree. A millionaire today, with all of the yields and ROIs, sees themselves becoming multimillionaires in 10 to 15 years, and all of this is purely speculative based on current outlooks.
Outlook: present & future
Present conditions determine future outlook; unless you believe (in God), people are designed to make long-term plans based on how well their current circumstances are.
A healthy person believes that they will grow old and remain healthy indefinitely, whereas a sick person believes that they will never grow old and will be chronically ill forever.
These outlooks alone influence the short and long-term goals of these various individuals, despite the fact that these two individuals can never truly predict the future.
Of course, having data and information about a situation is how we tend to make permutations and predictions, and while we may be correct, there are many factors that can steer our expectations in the opposite direction.
Thoughts & Perceptions
People have learned to think and act in multidimensional ways as a result of their experiences, which is why a wealthy, healthy, and famous person has both a written will and insurance.
While it is possible that they will never need insurance to help them, they still have it because uncertainty is never present in their outlook and expectations.
Goals make people omnidirectional; it is as if they have a target and are constantly chasing it.
This is not to say that goals are bad. It is simply an indirect way of saying, "If this does not work, what will you do?" Many people do not have answers to these types of questions.
Obviously, it appears to be a negative question on the surface, but it is simply a real-life reality question posed to a person to determine whether or not they are prepared for unexpected events.
Life is never "black or white," so people should not be either.
Apparently, the mind is a powerful tool capable of weaving reality into life. This is more than just daydreaming about becoming wealthy and marrying a beautiful or handsome person; it is about bringing possible realities into being, not from a place of infinite possibilities, but from a place of predictions and deliberate preparation.
The concept or the idea that life is unfair is mostly as a result of unexpectedness. However, it all comes down to the fact that most people think in a single direction, making it easier for them to be caught off guard.
Everyone is caught off guard by things they never expected or imagined, which is how unpredictable life can be. This is one of the reasons why people take unpredictable actions.
Long-term goals should be approached with short-term skepticism, as this allows you to develop sub-plans that may be capable of dealing with soft-event uncertainties. Are we going to ever have a world where people are rather cautious instead of carefree?
I don't know
It doesn't look likely
People have created fun events to replace their worries, laughter to mask their sorrows, and drunkenness to serve as a buffer against real-life issues and occurrences. When faced with financial, marital, or real-life issues, some people choose drink and fun over dealing with them.
This is because it is easier to be in denial than to deal with a problem; it is easier to wish a problem never existed than to confront the reality that it does.
"Real-world assumption" business models
Real-world assumptions models have only a few businesses built around them, one of which is insurance.
However, there are more clubs, bars, brothels, and other entertainment establishments than businesses that deal with "what if" scenarios in life. Life deserves balance; there are advantages and disadvantages, and sometimes we focus on the former while pretending the latter does not exist

This is definitely it, like a blind man who knows were he's headed but carefully counting each steps with his sticks so not to fall in a ditch ....I'm keeping this
I agree. All of us are all blindsided in life anyways, as we cannot completely see every angle, every areas and cannot predict anything.
Thats true only guided by how much we know ....
In this marvelous world we live in the real world will always catch up to you. Unless of course you have a genie in a magic lamp, which doesn't exist. Best to make long term plans and have them be flexible because that's how life works.
Why have a business that sells fun? Because it's much easier to separate a fool and his money for something fun. Plain and simple... Those who do better in the long run understand that fun is fine in moderate amounts, but invest and save because you never know what's around the corner.
Yeah, real-world will always catch up. I don't like to look at life as a place of only fun and enjoyment. I once did and it caused irreparable damages and irrecoverable losses, which I still live with the pain.
I think moderation is something that's not taken seriously. A lot of people prefer to go hard on fun and not minding the cost at which they do so.
that's so true, back to 10 years ago i had my things very well plannet long term and then sbam, life smashed something in my face, totally screwing everything... you really never know what can happen
Yeah, I think it's only a few people that can actually say that their plans from 10 to 15 years have been very smooth without any forms of hiccups. Most of the time, life always happen
I think this one of the main reasons why I try not to be fixated on goals, be in long term or medium. It tends to give you a tunnel vision where everything other than the goal can't be discerned or made sense of.
When goals don't materialize according to our expectations, setbacks hit harder and can sometimes spiral into giving up altogether on the things we want to achieve.
But going with the flow can also be scary, like being a leaf caught in the wind and not knowing where life will take you. Requires a great dose of belief in God to weather the seemingly insensible ups and downs.
I use to be a long-term goal person, but a lot happened in the short term and I learned a lot of lessons.
I didn't take precautions and acted irrationally and irresponsibly, in many ways and it hit really hard. This is why I make short term goals and hope they spiral into long-term results.
In summary, I take it one day at a time, even though I mostly daydream about goals in the long-term, I try to keep my expectations to the barest minimum.
Amazing approach on making short term goals and hoping they spiral into long term goals. I think the odds are more on one's favor from that approach, especially if momentum is built along the way.
Thinking or planning really long term is getting very hard against the backdrop of a world that's becoming very uncertain.
I've definitely found myself dreaming bigger or shrinking back depending on how steady or chaotic my current situation feels. But I think there’s also a kind of quiet wisdom in allowing yourself to hold two truths at once: hope and uncertainty. The hope that you’ll get there.... and the humility to know “there” might look different when you do.
What you said about people choosing distractions over confronting issues... that’s real. I’ve been there too. But the truth is, facing things head-on, while harder, is usually how we grow. Still, it’s a delicate balance between surviving and living, dreaming and grounding ourselves.
A thought provoking piece as usual, It reminds me that building a future should never come at the cost of forgetting how unpredictable the present can be. I never regret coming around, lol. Wishing you a peaceful weekend ♥️🌹

Yes. I agree with you on the idea of holding hope and uncertainty. Since my diagnoses and family problems over the course of two years, what I do is to have faith (in God) while holding on to the thoughts of uncertainty. Although it's against my Christian Faith to do so, but then after experiencing so much pain in my life, I just like to hold on to the shot term plans and goals and mostly hope for the best..
I understand you've been through rough patches as well, and no one can know what you went through except you alone. Sometimes exhaustion and harsh life experiences can teach us tough lessons, and sometimes God becomes the only solace.
Sorry for not replying earlier .
Life has a way of humbling us, especially when pain becomes more familiar than peace.... I see it more as a survival mechanism. Faith gives us strength, but uncertainty keeps us grounded and human. No worries at all about the late reply..... I completely understand.
I’ve noticed the more I fixate on future stability, the more I resent present joys. There’s a cost to over preparing too.
Indeed, there's a cost for everything.
Very true man
For me I would say that all plans are stories. The difference is whether you’re the author or the audience
I agree that everything needs balanced. I think it's better to figure out a goal, and then shorter term goals to get there. At least you won't get completely out of hand as you figure out what is possible or not.
Yeah, I think there's nothing wrong with focusing on the short term outlook of things, because you have control over things in the short term
