How do you deal with the stresses of life?

00100sPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20201011160617793_COVER-02-01.jpeg

The body is good at hiding health problems until they become too severe and manifest as symptoms. While this should be a good thing, it isn't. Consider how the brain sends pain signals to any part of the body that is stressed.

If this mechanism works for emergency conditions such as hypertension, I believe many people could have been spared impairments that could have left them permanently disabled.

The average human does not seek medical attention until symptoms appear. I understand; if it is not broken, do not fix it. However, the body and mind can be broken without indicating that it requires repair.

HPB: Stress Precursor

One of the health issues that the body can adequately mask is high blood pressure, a devastating condition that can be life-threatening if not treated seriously. Stress is one type of mental state that can lead to hypertension.

It is not necessary to think too much or be an overthinker; it is a state of mind in which you are visibly overworked mentally and physically and require a reset.

Stress: A Curable State of mind?

However, one mind think since it's that bad, why haven't any science or technical advancement found a way to deal with it? Because it is impossible to put the mind at ease when the surrounding factors are not at ease.

Stress is unavoidable.

It is due to the way we live our lives.

People do not scale without stress: going to school, earning a degree, writing an exam, looking for work, dealing with physical pain, managing chronic medical conditions, or even going to work. It does not stop there; pregnancy, while it appears to announce the prospect of a new child, brings complications, and the woman's life is never the same again.

Life's anxieties are unavoidable; even when we are setting goals and attempting to improve our lives by chasing more money and increasing the rate at which we achieve it, we gladly succumb to stress despite the fact that it is potentially harmful, because we simply cannot scale without it.

Uncomfortable Situations

On the other hand, life can cause us to experience stress that we did not expect. For example, no one prepares for losses. In fact, it is considered abnormal for people to believe they will suffer losses; any normal person who does so may be considered a negative person.

People do not prepare for losses, and when they do, it comes as a shock, causing emotional unrest and uneasiness. This can be the loss of something or the loss of people; whatever losses we face has its own impact, and the longer we have them (losses), the more chronic the stress becomes, which becomes a major issue.

The body: perfectly designed?

Obviously, the body was not designed to withstand chronic stress. In fact, the body can heal itself extremely well from acute conditions, but this becomes 50/50 when the condition is chronic.

What exactly does this mean? It means that the body seeks wellness and stability, which is why people often reward themselves by choosing happiness. Of course, happiness is a mental state triggered by a positive experience.

People are not automatically happy because it is good for their bodies; we are happy, sad, agitated, worried, excited, or angry as a result of life's events, and all of these factors are uncontrollable and based on unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.

We can relieve stress, particularly when we have control over it, but not when we don't. We cannot completely remove it, no matter what state of mind we achieve through financial independence, health, good genes, or being born in a good environment.

Apparently, all of the things I mentioned can reduce the amount of stress we are exposed to, but they cannot completely eliminate the possibility of stress, particularly due to factors beyond our control.

IMG_20200722_124159-01-01.jpeg

So how do you handle stress?

I believe everyone has their own way of doing so.

This is because our problems and life issues are not identical. Although there are generalized and randomized stress-relieving hacks, they are relative and not always completely effective.

A primary health care physician will say things like "take a break, sleep more, blah blah blah," and other standard recited speeches at the doctor's office, but these medical advices do not work in most cases. A person who is in debt, sleeping on the street, and struggling to feed themselves cannot sleep well.

Their situation already stresses them out mentally, and sometimes they require financial assistance rather than sleep, because the former will suffice, as it is the primary reason for the fellow's stress in the beginning.

However, we are back to the fact that the fellow may have been hustling, trying to make money, and nothing has worked.

So, what is causing their stress: the fact that their hard work did not pay off, or the fact that they are homeless and cannot afford to eat?

Life itself stressful. Our brain... the mind is just filled with a lot and our surroundings too also affect us.

Staying in a place where there's lot of noise as someone who doesn't appreciate noisy environment but yet you can't leave because of finances is super stressful. You just have to deal with!

However, the body and mind can be broken without indicating that it requires repair.

True. That is why we shouldn't take any symptoms lightly especially when we have health issues like hbp, ulcer etc.

Yes, basically, the lack of money makes us put up with stressful situations in life. With the right amount of money we can always reduce the type of stress you're talking about, unfortunately when it's impossible there's no option but to live with it.
Although noise is much more damaging to the brain and ears, it doesn't immediately put the mind at ease.

That's just it! It'd be best to say I hope everyone survives, but let's just face reality, lol. It is well.

Stress is a part of life, there's no escaping it. Even the baby in the womb is going through stress too. 😅
Making money is stressful, eating it, sometimes is stressful.

Managing stress is an individual thing. One should be able to find ways to take care of theirs.

When it becomes chronic, it can do a lot of damage to the body. This is why we have people who suddenly drop dead, people who get hit by stroke, those with sudden heart attack, all stress-related. However, I agree that stress is inevitable in life, it's just what it is.

Stress is a silent killer and we should do all to manage it.

Grief can be stressful too, when people mourn or cry for too long.

Yes, there are so many stress causing agents that we're not even aware of. That's why it's a silent killer.

As you say body can handle a short period of stress, but chronic stress leads to everything collapsing over time

There is no magic to fix stress, not even medicines as you become dependant then... I wish I had the cure

There's no cure as you've said. If people had the cure or if any big pharma had, I'm sure they'll be selling it for big money, because there are people who just want to replace their sadness or mental pain with anything other than that.

Exactly, it would sell more than cocaine and so on, I think stress is like the biggest health problem world wide

Exactly, it is. Especially since it happens to everyone, and there's no exceptions even if you're the richest man out there

Some books I have read address this disparity between people in different circumstances related to distractions and health.

One book I read discusses how our focus is fractured, which leads to poor performance and decisions. Recommendations to meditate or relax aren't as easy for somebody living in a bad neighborhood versus somebody who lives in a more peaceful environment.

Similarly, poverty contributes to poor health as good food tends to cost more than junk food. And struggling to earn money often means that exercise and sleep are sacrificed. There is only so much a person can do in a bad environment to lower stress. And poverty doesn't help an individual feel control of their life.

The point is that your environment contributes greatly to what is possible. That environment also includes a person's family and friends who may have poor mindsets and behaviors that affect their own behavior. We often do what our families and cultures do without questioning because we don't want to be different.

There are so many variables.

I've read that stress is the difference between your expectations and what you actually get.

With this idea, we can also see grief as the difference between expecting to have a lost one and not having them. Instead of gratitude for having had them in our lives, we dwell on the loss, which is the stress. It is a pain, no doubt. But we often experience other things like seeing a great concert, meeting somebody who changed our lives, or some other experience that was meaningful. And we feel grateful that we had that opportunity and look back on that experience fondly, yet we never expected it to last forever. We accept that they have passed and that we had the opportunity to experience them. With grief, in my opinion, we focus more on the loss than the gratitude for having had the time to be with that person.

Ultimately we change what we can, and accept those things we cannot change.

Unfortunately it's difficult when it seems we've lost that person or a group of people too early (as it is, in my case) I think it's difficult to handle grief well, except there are factors that brings comfort. People take solace in the remaining people or things they have, but sometimes it's not as easy.

You're right in your assessment. I think it's easy for people in more comfortable positions to actually deal with the stress of life, unfortunately it's not the same for someone who has had a very difficult life or cannot afford the basics things of life. I think we can tackle stress by throwing the good things of life at it, and ur can get better to some extent.

I can relate with junk being cheaper and easier than healthy food. I think the summation is that money or a more comfortable life can help us tackle or deal with stress

I think it could be both for the fellow, the hard work not paying off enforces the reality that they're homeless and can't eat. Stress is one of those unavoidable aspects of life, and oftentimes trying not to be stressed is actually a surefire way to become stressed. Part of me thinks that a certain detachment towards life in general can reduce stress, maybe or especially the unnecessary ones.

Yeah, I agree that detachment to life can do a lot of magic, but sometimes we can't help it. You're right about the combination of events triggering the stress in that fellow, it just goes to show that series of events can trigger stress in people and sometimes they might not even known. For me, I have tried detachment, but I live with a chronic condition, most times it doesn't work. I always have the symptom to remind me of what I'm fighting

Stress is really one of the biggest causes that affect heart health and blood pressure and usually people don’t take it seriously until symptoms actually show up.

Honestly speaking I have been under Intense stress for the past two weeks, a lot of things are not adding up indebt, debtors calling even at dawn, yesterday was crazy like hell, I feel like my head will just explode ... I was so confused, stressed I could not sleep and one of the things that really trigger this high mental and physical stress level is lack of adequate finances to take of.nevessary things around us, for instance you see why the rich look well.and better ... thats because they can afford certain things in life which places their minds at rest and thus look very healthy....

Stress is a large thing that can hurt people, and I think that having a hobby is the best way to combat the stress. Honestly, I think its a hard issue to solve once it starts to develop.

Yeah, it's difficult to solve when it starts to develop, and when it becomes chronic, but you're right when you say getting a hobby can make a lot of difference.

I believe it is important to be aware of the stress level you are at. Stress is common in life, but it's level can be increased or decreased, and it is often up to you to decide if you need more stress to push something over the edge or if it's already too much and you need to reduce its level. Elon Musk has an interesting way to gauge his stress level. He is a very good video game player (I think is might be something with space strategy, it would make sense for him). He said that he plays that game every once in a while, and if he can't reach the level on the leaderboard he knows he can, he knows he is too stressed.
