Maybe singing a few Jimmy Buffet beach songs will warm me up! I'll just stay snug indoors, singing and looking out the windows at my river views.

All I need to do is look at the weekly weather forcast to make me grateful for my warm home. I am thankful for everyone who must work outdoors in these brutal conditions.

Although these might appear to be black and white images, they are in color and you can see that there is very little color left when it gets this cold out. The weeds on the riverbank have frozen and still have a hint of brown.

The wildlife has no escape from the harsh winter weather. They must spend each day out in the snow and ice searching for the food that they need to survive.
Canada geese are a familiar site out on the river, whether it is frozen solid or not.

To maintain their body heat in freezing temperatures, their bodies have adapted to the cold
These animals rely on a vascular system of arteries and veins in the legs and feet that are close together, which allows the blood to be warmed and cooled quickly.

The ducks and geese provide some life and movement to what can otherwise become a dreary landscape during the winter.

I'm sure they are missing greenery as much as I am!

The winter is me of my favorite season. The sunny days are really stressful due to how it’s usually hot around here.

Thanks! The hillside across the river is part of a large park, so it's nice to know I will never have to look across the river at houses!

The swans are extraordinary, they are able to play in the water in cold weather without sunlight.

The don't seem to mind the cold, but I suppose they can always decide to fly further south looking for warmer temperatures!

I have seen deer walk across the river ice, but because the water is moving it never freezes hard enough to be safe to go out on.

-5c tonight. The river has frozen over. Because the water is moving the ice would not be safe to walk on. Lakes freeze solid enough to walk and even drive on.

I see the -5c, and I have to laugh at myself for complaining about feeling “cold” and I am 20 degrees above that temperature. In comparison, this “tropical cold” is like a pleasant spring in those northern parts.

You have every right to complain. We have fireplaces, down filled coats and central heating in our homes and buildings to stay warm. We are pretty well set to manage the cold temps. Stay warm!

It was sunny here today but pretty cold for our area. I got out for a while, right as the temp finally hit 30. The house was warm and the trek to the care was short, so not too cold. Had to let the car warm up a few minutes though, but at least no breezes on the inside. After that, when it was time to get out and go in the store, the car was toasty warm too, so the short treks from place to play and being very warm in-between, worked out fine. It would have still been brutal if one had been caught outside for too long.

Glad you have a river view to keep you company and warm songs to get you through.

Maybe the birds in the last photos enjoy this winter. However, your beautiful pictures show that the winter is extremely harsh there. 11-12°C cannot be tolerated by me; I believe it is minus temperatures in your country, which are unbearable. May Almighty Allah keep you healthy and safe from the harsh winter weather.

Beautiful monochromes! I recommend St John's in the US Virgen Islands or Virgen Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, There are a lot of great islands starting with Saint that's for sure and much warmer this time of year. I wouldn't mind heading to one now either, some of that stupid smoke from the fires makes the air really ugly here when the winds blow just wrong!
