A photo walk in Springfield Illinois

After parking the car, it was a great day to enjoy the lovely autumn weather and walk to tour the state Capitol building in Springfield Illinois. It was easy enough to find a few opportunities for some photos to share in a post. !

Springfield was the home of Abraham Lincoln and the city continues to honor it's most famous resident who was the 16th US president and who was assassinated in 1865. He led the United States through the American Civil War and played a major role in the abolition of slavery.

This mural by artist Michael Mayosky titled "Abe Lincoln, The Surveyor," depicts a young Lincoln.

The Tin Can Pub appears to be permanently closed, but across the street is a view of the dome of the state Capitol Building.

The Illinois Supreme Court building has two huge granite sculputes by artist Charles J Mulligan flanking the grand stairway and entrance. These statues represent:
​Justice and Power (on one side)
​Law and Knowledge (on the other side)

Continuing on walk after touring the Capitol Building, there were many beautiful old homes and sights to see!

Definitely,I did enjoy the beautiful pictures and the information that Abraham Lincoln contributed to ensure that slavery was abolished.
