Costly Assumption
By Auta Cornelius Kanaty (KannyGospel)
Uncertainty is one of the things that man fears the most in his life.
He prefers, at all costs, to know the future — where it will all end.
He is happy when things remain normal, as usual, or when he knows where it will all end.
His hope is his assurance, his happiness when there is security in his future and the days to come.
Like when it is night, day will break; when the sun rises, it will set at dusk; summer comes and goes with winter. That is how hope is built — and that keeps him on watch, happy — because there is assurance.
In uncertainty, he loses his happiness, especially when he encounters things like sickness, affliction, old age, etc., which begin to make him fear what he never thought about:
• "What will happen when I am sick?"
• "Will I die?"
• "If I die, where will I go?"
• "Is there life after death?"
• "When I grow old, what will happen?"
• "Will I die and what happens to being a spirit?"
• "All the wealth I have gathered as a human ,will I have to start again as a spirit?"
• "What about the people I love, like my children? When I am dead, who will take care of them?"
These are just a few of the questions that trouble the heart.
However, those who are wise begin to plan to conquer their fear of uncertainty on earth. Some begin to set up insurance, invest in certainties to keep hope alive — so that when sickness comes, there will be money to help them.
But even that is not enough.
Life is full of assurances:
A man who is not sick knows that air will flow from his nose to his lungs to give him life. His brain tells him not to remove his clothes and walk naked. His legs carry him without failing.
He knows the wind will not blow him away from the ground, and the ground will not suddenly sink beneath him through an earthquake.
That is how man feels safe in life.
But what about eternity with God in heaven?
As much as man longs for assurance in things that are temporary, why won’t he seek assurance about his days to come with God?
Man seeks assurance on earth but leaves eternity to assumption and chance — saying, "If God wills, I will make it to eternity."
How can it be that with all our earthly wisdom with all the investments and careful plans we make for earthly life
we leave eternity to chance and assumption?
We behave like foolish farmers who invest all their future where moth and rust will destroy.
It is of no value if a man is not wise enough to live with eternity in view, and set all his quest upon it — like a wise man who knows that life is a marketplace and everyone must return home at last.
Only animals find comfort and make their temporary dwelling their permanent home, forgetting their true owner.
Why not invest all our treasures where moth and rust cannot destroy?

The ground of wisdom shows that no man has ever truly thought of building for uncertainty or even tried to "acquire a plot of land" in heaven, preparing, sharing, or investing in eternity.
No one has ever tried, through any means, to lobby or check if their name is written in the Book of Life — unlike how men pay bribes for jobs or for the future of their children on earth.
Nothing charismatic has ever been seen about such preparations.
I once heard a young man sing Jim Reeves' song that says:
"This world is not my home; I'm just a-passing through."
But the quest for dominion has overwhelmed us so much that we forget eternity.

Though it is normal for a man to fear death, it is not normal for a man not to prepare for what he fears — for that which is uncertain to him.
As man seeks security for life, I expect he should seek even greater assurance for eternity.
Let all who read these words grow in wisdom and understanding — to keep their lives in balance.
Live wisely.
Let the gains of life have their worth, and let your life have its place in eternity — not by chance, and not at a costly price.
Because a successful journey requires adequate preparation.
God bless us all.
