Probota Monastery
Surely Probota Monastery says nothing to you, just as thousands and thousands of names and places say nothing to me. The world is so big and we, its inhabitants, are so small, small...
And yet, we are here, in the Hive, to learn about each other. We are different in our willingness to share about ourselves, some give more, some less, but in the end, we see and learn something about the people and places of this earth that still support us!
Romania's medieval period is still visible today thanks to several ruins, castles, churches, and monasteries.
Many churches and monasteries. One of these monasteries is Probota.
Probota Monastery (Romanian: Mănăstirea Probota) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery in Probota village, Dolhasca town, Suceava County, Romania. Built in 1530, with Peter IV Rareș as Founder, it is one of eight buildings that make up the Churches of Moldavia UNESCO World Heritage Site. Source
Surely Probota Monastery says nothing to you, but it didn't tell me anything either, even though I lived and grew up just 20 miles away from it. Of course, I knew it existed, but that's all.
A very recent trip to my grandparents' house, where I grew up, helped me to repair this ignorance. I took a short trip to Probota and was impressed by what I saw there.
All photos are taken inside and outside the Probota Monastery. Being a historical monument, a building of the past, I tried to see it in black and white.
The lack of color also leads to the loss of some details, but at the same time I think it brings something spiritual, something lost for a long time and which, I think, should be highlighted in a different way from our everyday life.
The photos were originally in color, but I wanted to show them only in black and white. For this, there is the possibility of conversion. That means converting color photos into black and white!
Very easy but also very hard to do... technically easy, any digital photo can be desaturated in various applications and programs.
However, choosing which photos are best suited for conversion is difficult, at least for me. That's what I'm practicing now, including with this post!
At least in terms of subject matter, it's easier for me to choose because...
For me, it's easier to choose color or black and white. When I shoot in older places, places that remind me of the past, memories, and nostalgia, I like to change the photos to monochrome, especially black and white!
This is my entry for the #monomad challenge.
Amazing pictures. In fact the black and white really bring the beauty of the pictures out more
Thank you! I'm glad you see the advantage of black-and-white photography.
Thank you very much, @qurator and @ackhoo!
True... we are small, and the world is big, but Hive is the place where those two extremities meet :D
Nice that you are (were) visiting the places from your childhood and this monastery too, hence we also visited it in some way. Converting the photos into black and white gave that antique touch 👌
Thank you! I'm looking for that "antique touch" in black and white and it's hard. It seems like any photo you just turn it black and white and that's it, but then you notice that it looks worse than color, or that the white burns the paper, it glows too bright and there's not much you can do about it.
The return to childhood was pleasant but similar to your story of the island or peninsula on the Danube, where you played with friends as a child... Now nothing is the same.
The world is big but I'm surprised by how people call it a small world
The buildings look very beautiful and I so much love the fact that they are black and white pictures.
Photos become more beautiful when converted to black and white. Absolutely this platform is very good and here we meet many new people from all over the world and we get a new experience of our life.
Yes, we are lucky to be on this platform and I hope its future will be even better.
Hope so
Finally something in Romania! :P
Really glad to explore the place through your story, I find your B&W pictures make this whole even more authentic ;)

Thank you very much! I am impressed by your interest in Romania, similar to mine in Bulgaria. I am thinking that if somehow a conflict should start between these two countries, we could try to mediate an agreement and a reconciliation...
Hahaha, right :)))
I hope it never gets to that point and despite the fact our languages are so different I think we have a lot in common.
Yeah, I think so too... and many of my compatriots saw that after we escaped communism and were able to travel.

Every country has their own stories, but they all contribute to the rich history of our world. I enjoy visiting such places on my any trip, domestic or abroad.
Of course, we have to enjoy such places, I know Turkey is full of exceptional sights!
Sure, you should see!
Yes, it should, but for the moment it is not possible. But there is no telling what the future holds if I were to choose my optimistic side.
What good messages and how interesting it is to see the past of a place in structures, see these photos and I can't even imagine how it must be to see them in person to imagine how it was when I was in the golden age of these structures, what good photos.
Thank you! There are indeed traces of the past that we can see with our own eyes!
