The Sole Visitor on My Friend's Birthday and Gifting A Cake

Hello, everyone! Mother's Day is less than two week's away. What's your plan? For me, I am kind of occupied again preparing for my little cake business.

I usually begin making the sample cake weeks ahead and its lucky recipient has always been my friend because her birthday falls under that timeframe. I informed her few days before her birthday to confirm if she's at home on her special day.

I finished decorating the night before her birthday. Good thing I finished just in time and was still able to take a rest.

Next morning, I unmolded the cake and packed so I don't have to rush in the afternoon. My friend's birthday celebration will be in the afternoon which is why she asked for me to stay a while and eat.

I took a nap around lunch time which is probably why I felt a bit lazy to move and got out of the house at 5 in the afternoon. The first tricycle driver refused to take me to my destination aparrently because the street where my friend lives is under construction. My friend assured me earlier that their road is still passable even with construction going on. Maybe it's a huge hassle for the driver to drive on that street which is why he refused. I walked further and I was lucky that the tricycle driver I've known since high school was there and immediately approached me. He said he'll try if we can enter that road.

Honestly, I was nervous if I can make to my friend's house. I wonder how bad the road situation is for drivers to refuse. I finally understood it when we got there. The road was layered with unleveled soil with big rocks. Passing the road felt like we're doing off-road trip. I held on tight on the cake and did my best to lessen the impact everytime we pass through a rocky area. I felt sorry as well for the tricycle. I hope it didn't cause any damage on the vehicle.

I was greeted by her eldest son who opened the door for me. The house felt chaotic as soon as I entered their house. Taking care of three children is really stressful and I'm definitely feeling my friend's exhaustion while she was juggling between looking after them and cooking spaghetti. Her husband was inside the room fixing something.

The three sons were very energetic and the eldest kept telling me about the games their are playing, even showing me the play station controller he uses. I did my best to relate to what my Godson but I was actually clueless of the games he was gleefully telling me. Meanwhile, the middle child kept climbing the chair whom my friend reprimanded every time he does it. The youngest was occupied watching television but later on, the little one also began patrolling reaching every thing he can touch. I tried to keep an eye on him especially when I saw him holding an empty bottle of bleach.

Few minutes after, my friend was done cooking her spaghetti and began clearing the table. She arranged the foods together with the cake. She also prepared some take out foods and asked her husband to give it to their neighbors. I was surprised that I was her only visitor for her birthday. I was embarrassed because it felt like I intruded their family celebration. Lol. But she told me that it's okay and she was glad that I came.

Her foods for the celebration were spaghetti, coffee jelly, graham ice cream, and jelly cake. My friend joked that we might get diabetes because her foods were all sweet. Well, not for the cake, of course!

The eldest son was also eager to be the one to put the candle on the cake. We all gathered around the table and sang happy birthday which we have to repeat because we forgot to light the candle. I know cakes are optional for birthdays but having one makes the kids happy for sure. I always see them getting excited putting the candles and taking a bite on the cake's edge.

I'm not a big fan of the coffee jelly but the spaghetti was good! My friend was also generous with the cheese. Meanwhile, my favorite was the graham ice cream! It was cookies and cream flavor, I just love it. I wish I can eat more but I only ate two slices because I know her kids would look for it later on.

I'm lucky because my friend and her husband drove me back to the town proper since getting a tricycle to take me home was difficult due to the road construction. We also took an alternative route which was less rocky. She told me she forgot to tell me about the alternative route and was shocked when she learned that I pass through the rocky road instead.

They dropped me off a mall because I told them I still need to purchase some things I need for home. I also bought some pork barbecue before I went home because I was craving some of it. A stick of it with four tiny pork meat already costs Php 20. Inflation is real!

I ate two sticks of it at midnight because I felt a bit hungry. Lucky that I still have one serving of leftover rice.

Of course, going to a birthday wouldn't be complete without having a "sharon" or a takeaway food from the party. My friend insisted that I bring home some. She was even supposed to include the graham ice cream which I had praised a lot. However, I refused it because I'm still not going home and it might melt.

And that's how my day went. A bit tired and shocked of the road but all is well and I'm happy I got to see a friend again and made her day with my cake. Maybe I'll wait for their road to get done before I visit again.

Thanks for reading! 💚
