Kowloon Walled City Park

This is one of the most anticipated places that I've visited so far in Hong Kong.

Before heading to Hong Kong, I did a bit of reading just to get to know more about this place, and here I am visiting this place in person. That has got me into a more excited mode.

You can click on the link below for the trip that I took to this area.

After coming out of Sung Wong Toi Station, I had to somehow find my way to the Kowloon Walled City Park. I checked the GPS for the location first.

This area is different from the busy areas of Hong Kong. I saw lots of older shops here.

Hong Kong streets are quite clean. I went around the city and noticed that everywhere was clean. Good job by the local city council.

The famous Hong Kong mini buses. I sat in one a bit later in the day just to have the experience of what it feels like to ride in one.

Kowloon City Exchange

This looks like a colonial era building that still remains here till this day.

A local saloon here. I wanted to take a photo of the prices of the services here just to compare them with Malaysian prices.

We are near the park. In front of us, there is a sign that shows us the way to the park.

In the picture below, on the right, is a shop that still uses a drawing to depict the service that they offer.

Hong Kong-style diner named "Cheung Wo Lung Restaurant" (張和隆飯店). The signage indicates it specializes in three-dish rice boxes and other local meals. These are the cheaper options to eat as compared to many expensive restaurants in Hong Kong.

A fruit and veg shop.

Finally, after around ten to fifteen minutes of walking, we were here at Kowloon Walled Park. The aura of this place was felt. I could feel the aura. Can't believe that this area used to be one of the most lawless places in the town. An enclave for triads, refugees and the poor who could not afford the rent in the main city area.

The map of the park. Wow. Can't believe that I am here in person. I felt an amazing feeling. The park is free for anyone to enter, and there is an area that they have created where you can experience a part of life in the previous Kowloon Walled City. They actually have a replica (yes, I googled to check if it was the real deal from the movie, but it was a replica) of the set from a recent movie, " Twilight Warriors; Walled In ". I watched it and it was good but goofy at some parts because the last part where these guys were fighting a boss, he almost seemed like a super human.

The next post will be about the park. Have you been there before?
