A short trip to Brunei

Recently, my dad adopted a dog, and it has grown a lot. Look what it has done to the garbage.

Having a pet at home trains our patience level to the highest level. Even though it does something like this, the best thing to do is just to slowly get them into a routine so they don't do such things. So, before cleaning up that mess, I was getting a bit hungry, and it was time to get some food.

So, it was time for me to go to the food court here in Miri and get some food. I was heading to Brunei for a short trip. My mom-in-law wanted to give me a bed that someone did not want anymore. So, luckily, my car can fit that bed. At the end of this post is a video of a driving tour from Miri, Sarawak, to Brunei. I am sure many people have never heard of Miri or Brunei. So, I guess, maybe, I am one of the ones here to showcase the life in Miri, Sarawak.

This stall sells delicious fried noodles. They also have lots of Indonesian food. Usually, I order a plate of fried noodles from this stall. Add a piece of fried egg on top of that. You've got a wonderful breakfast.

Most of the noodles are quite affordable at around RM 5 or around USD 1.60 The fried noodle here. The cook took a long time to slowly prepare and fry the noodles. Patiently.

Super duper delicious. The egg on top is half raw so the yolk is still in a semi liquid stage. So, if you use your spoon, you can press on the yolk and it leaks out. Yummy.

After eating my breakfast here, it was time to head to Brunei for a short trip. Brunei is the nearest country to Miri, Sarawak, and you can drive there in around an hour. So, before heading there, I was going to get some snacks.

Malaysia has snack factories. In any supermarket, lots of snacks and groceries are made in Malaysia.

The first is the Pico Koko Snek ayam

Chicken-flavoured corn snacks. Malaysian snacks have flavours and the moment you bite into one, you instantly feel the burst of flavours into your mouth.

Mister Potato is one of the most popular local manufacturers of potato chips. We love potato chips. So, most supermarkets that you visit in Malaysia, you will definitely see the potato chip on their shelves. A must try.

There are even prawn flavoured chips as well as salted egg chips. Off I went to Brunei. This time just for a half day. To collect something from my mom-in-law, as well as to just have a short relaxation tour around. The first place that I visited was my mom-in-law's house. She loves to keep her house clean. There is a papaya tree that has this strange bent. Maybe, it has grown old so it bent downwards but she did not cut it as it was still bearing fruits.

In the living room, I saw some canned drinks from another part of Ipoh, Malaysia. This can is special, which showcases the landmarks of Ipoh. Ipoh is not near Sarawak and you need at least a three hours flight to reach.

In the living room was this very nice recyclable bag from Hong Kong Disneyland. My sis-on-law's boss gave her as a gift maybe from a recent trip to Hong Kong.

This cost around RM 50 or around USD 16.

The NASI KATOK

To visit Brunei, you have to try out their flagship dish which is the Nasi Katok. It is simple, affordable, and delicious. I searched for this house.

This is what Nasi Katok looks like. It has the special Brunei sambal ( a type of sauce that is made from shrimp paste). It also adds that extra wow factor to this. If your hungry, this is definitely the dish to go for. How this came to be was that very long ago, housewives used to prepare rice in paper and walk around houses to sell it. Hence, Nasi Katok. Nasi = rice Katok = knock

This is the main ordering area. A family run business. While I was there, I saw some other tables with offshore crew. Brunei is an oil producing country so alot of their population works for either the government or offshore. This is a house that has a section that is converted into a make shift restaurant with seats. A great way for locals to make a living from home.

This poster even has a family potrait. Below is a video driving tour of the drive from Miri to Brunei if you are interested to see what it looks like to drive there from Miri, Sarawak.

Thank you very much for reading this post. Really appreciate it a lot.

Have a wonderful day ahead.
