Rustling Up a Snack for Kid's Request with Cassava Recipes: Steamed and Fried Cassava Balls

Hello Hivers and foodie friends! How was your day? Today was so hot and humid that my kids are getting hungry from playing outside so they requested to buy something at the store but instead of buying I had made up my mind to cook something healthier for them.

I ordered a ground cassava online and get it delivered after 15 minutes. This is what it looks like. It is color pale yellow in person. I am thinking of making two recipes of this so i separate half of it in a separate bowl.

On the first bowl my recipe would be a steamed cassava ball. So I grabbed sugar and slowly pour it down.

Then mix it well using bare hands to separate or distribute the sugar evenly.

Get a pinch of it or a desired amount of how small or big the balls you want. For me I chose to have smaller ones because they will cook faster and its for my kids mainly so they won't make it harder to eat.

And these are all the balls I made. It is ready for cooking.

I then set the pan in a medium heat. I waited the water to boil.

Once it was boiling, I put all the balls. This is like pale yellow and it sinks in the bottom of the pan.

But when it is already cooked, it will turn to golden yellow and it will float in the water. So its ready to transfer to a plate.

And look this is the finish product! A beautiful steamed cassava balls. It is actually little sweet and if you want it sweeter, you can put condense milk, powdered milk or another case a scraped young coconut.

After the steamed one, I proceed to the fried one. Just a little cleaning on the pan and heating it to dry and prepare for the next recipe.

I only need the ground cassava, one piece of onion, salt and some pieces of garlic.

First thing to put is a small amount of iodized salt. It must be iodized because if you put a rock salt it will cause hard pigments that can make one ball more salty. And make sure to mix it well to spread it evenly.

Then I chopped all the garlic and onion into very tiny pieces and mix it to the mixture. Mix it very well to distribute the spices evenly. Then form little balls. It must be little in order to cook it faster. Then fry it in a pan in a medium heat.

And this is the finish product, when it turns golden yellow it is now ready to eat.

It is better to eat together with a sauce which is a vinegar ,little amount of salt and lots of oinion.

And its all done!
We had a great snack with my 2 kids today. I usually bought biscuit in the store but today I made something new and they like it very much.
That's all for today food lovers, thank you so much for reading my blog until here and see you in my next blog!

I never heard of this kind of food which is the fried cassava although I heard about the steamed cassava, which is delicious, but I never tried the fried one, is the taste like a fish ball? or it is different from the fishball?

I love to try this because I think this is good and yummy.

@vinzie1 the fried cassava was taught by my mother. it looks like a fish ball but this is harder, fish ball is soft. and this is more flavorful! especially dipped in a vinegar with lots of onions. It's a must try sir vince

Wow, I like steamed ball cassava especially rolled in coconut. I haven't tried fried cassava with onion and garlic yet. I've tried flattening the cassava and adding ripe saba bananas and jackfruit, it's delicious. We call it cassava turon here.

Instead of buying biscuits in the market, take your two kids with you and make the cassava recipe with great joy. This amazing food is really very healthy. Especially in restaurants we eat different types of food which are not clean. Children's happiness can be seen in their own cooking.

I have tried a steamed cassava balls and fried cassava balls but in sweet version sugar instead of salt. And after frying it we drizzle it or coat it with sugar or syrup.
This is the first time I heard a salty one with onion and garlic. Maybe we can pair it with rice hehe.

@gretelarmfeg it's a must to try. Mind it it's really delicious. I just make it so it has contrast. If it's too sweet on the steamed then on the fried one it's salty. Hehehe
