Daunting, yet Rewarding / Desalentador, pero gratificante

One of my cousins, who is now a professional tailor with a little bit of influence which keeps growing daily used to be in my inbox asking about the littlest things about getting started with his business.

He had learnt tailoring a while ago, but he never got to fully begin because he couldn’t buy himself a sewing machine, so he did a 9-5 for a while before he eventually decided to stop working and focus solely on his business.

When he consulted me, the first question I asked was “what the aim of going into the business was”. I understood that he needed money, but I needed to be sure that the pushing factor for the business establishment was not money because he would soon be frustrated out of the business if that was the case.

At first, he had no answer for me, but then, about two months later, he returned to me, and said, “around the place he lived, there was no modern tailor there. All the tailors around were focused on sewing native fits which was also what he is very good at but considering that the population of the youths around there, there was a need for a tailor who would understand their fashion needs and relate with them with so much calmness and give them exactly what they wanted”.

His reason sounded very convincing to me, so we went ahead with the plan. We hired a graphics designer, who was one of his friends. He designed the logo, and the business card with a colour that resonated with the brand. This time, he had bought a manual sewing machine which he had started using in his one-room apartment.

He immediately started using his social media platforms to advertise his works, but none was forthcoming.

After many weeks of advertising, he eventually got a client who wanted free services. How?

They approached him as a team of five whose lifestyle was to find potential talents in the fashion industry, get them to sew their outfits for them, which in turn they would promote on Instagram.

When my cousin informed me, I outright rejected. I mean, these people came with he would sew up to four complete outfits for each of them, making twenty ALL FOR FREE! See, I wasn’t shocked with their proposal. It’s one of those things that happen to rising stars across the entrepreneurship world.

However, as entrepreneurs, it is important that your quest for fame, influence, and money does not make you take desperate decisions that could frustrate you out of the business.

The moment you decided to start your own business, you’ve decided to tour a daunting path filled with many uncertainties. It is you taking a step that could either lead you to success or success depending on how you tend to look at it. However, it is important that you tread carefully and be patient with yourself when taking decisions in your business.

Meanwhile, if your goal for deciding to be your own boss is to make money faster, soon, you’ll be frustrated to return to your 9-5. The journey to becoming a widely known entrepreneur has never been easy, so you should be easy on yourself when the results are not coming in as fast as you envisaged.

It's been five years since the conversation with my cousin, and he's now a professional tailor that's currently training people in the field. In the end, it'll be worth it. It will only require some time, patience, and high level of persistence.

Such a nice article about your cousin's business. I've really learnt that boldness is that's need to be an entrepreneur. If your brother had gone ahead with his 9 to 5 probably he would regret why he hadn't started this business yet but thanks he discovered the lapses within his environment and also maximized it, Congratulations to him. Moreover, most customers are set to frustrate different entrepreneurs given their irrational demand although you never told the whole story but I'm glad he's doing well currently.
