Hive Garden Question
Hello lovelies, I hope you all have a wonderful day! This is the first time I've had the opportunity to take part in the Hive Garden Question. So far, I either haven't managed it due to my busy work schedule or simply missed it. I'm all the more pleased to be taking part now in week 12, because the theme fits perfectly with what I want most for my garden.
My favourite extension would definitely be a garden shower. Although my home is not far from my garden, I find it annoying to have to drive home dirty after a day's work. The soil on my hands, the dust on my skin and the sweat after a productive day in the garden are all signs of real work, but it would be great to be able to freshen up straight after gardening.
If I had a shower right in the garden, I could wash immediately after work without having to go home first. I imagine sitting relaxed and refreshed in the open air afterwards, enjoying the sunset next to my plants. This image has become so firmly anchored in my mind over the last few days that I have decided to plan in more detail what I need to realise it and what conditions my garden offers.
My plans are as follows:
Find a solar shower that is easy to install and works with a low water pressure of 2-4 bar.https://www.kaufland.de/product/351519292/?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SC_PMax_PG_mid&utm_term=2331102090249447&utm_content=SC_PMax_PG_mid
A garden pump with a rechargeable battery, as there is no electricity in my garden. Ideally, the pump should already have an integrated filter to keep the water clean. https://www.bauhaus.info/gartenpumpen/einhell-power-x-change-18v-akku-gartenpumpe-aquinna-1830-f-led/p/30234064?cid=SSABin650161856_1254544080155659&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=ssa&utm_id=650161856_1254544080155659&cid=SSABin650161856_1254544080155659
A large water barrel that can be fed with both rainwater and stream water so that there is enough water for the shower. https://www.ebay.de/itm/326392713382?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=707-53477-19255-0&campid=5338669627&toolid=20006&customid=8b504c23736f16310579246d09da794f%7C%7C
A sturdy planter as a base, which I fill with screed to create a solid surface for the shower. In addition, a non-slip rubber foot mat for more comfort. https://www.bauhaus.info/pflanzkuebel/ehl-creaform-pflanzkuebel/p/31889944?cid=SSABin650161855_1244648464568818&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=ssa&utm_id=650161855_1244648464568818&cid=SSABin650161855_1244648464568818
(The links are for illustrative purposes only, so that you can understand what I mean.)
My idea for the structure: The rainwater would flow through a filter directly into the water barrel. A battery-operated water pump would be integrated into this barrel, which would draw the water from the barrel and channel it into the solar shower. The shower would be mounted stably on the planter base so that it stands securely and can be used without any problems. Another advantage is that it is very easy to dismantle in winter.
This theory sounds promising, but I won't know whether it can actually be realised until I start building it. It's still an unfulfilled wish that I've come up with in my head as a solution based on the possibilities of my garden. Whether everything works as planned will only become clear in practice.
Of course, I still have to save a bit before I can realise this dream. But the idea really motivates me! I hope you like my extended garden idea and I'm curious to see what ultimate garden extras you come up with.
See you next time - and I wish you all a wonderful day! Thank you for reading my dream.

I also want a shower in the garden :)
And I have been planning to install a shower in the yard or garden for a long time
I already have the inside of an old water heater, I should paint it black, so that the sun heats the water, I plan to use a hose from the tap to refill the water
I'm going to write a post, so maybe I can elaborate on this great idea
Yes, please! We both have the same dream... I'd love to see how you do it and what ideas you have. Painting it black is very beneficial, that way it can warm up better, you're right.
The only thing I'm thinking about with my design is that the water quality needs to be refreshed. I would use water conditioner, what do you think?

You don't need a water conditioner for rainwater
But since you're planning on using water from a stream
Yes, you should have filters and maybe a water softener.
It also depends a lot on the water in the stream.
Oh really?
Why don't I need treatment for rainwater?
I thought all standing water was like that. But good to know, thank you very much for your tip.

Rainwater is soft water by itself and does not contain minerals.
Although nowadays, sand from the Sahara arrives in our air and falls to the ground with the rain, and the Etna volcano also threw out a lot of ash and dirt.
Maybe you could add a fine filter
That's right, rainwater is soft water in itself, and as it also feeds the rivers, I thought we had the same quality in both, but environmental factors do play a part. although I think ash is also good for the soil, as ash used to be sprinkled in the planting hole to keep them healthy.😊
Yes, ash is good for plants, wood ash, I even wrote in earlier posts that we add ash around the plant and on the plant, potatoes in the fight against the potato beetle. But Volcanic ash is not good.
Wood ash contains key plant nutrients, including potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, as well as trace elements. Potassium, calcium and magnesium are especially useful because they are soluble in water, which means that they act quickly on the soil.
Ash composition:
Potassium (K): Essential for plant growth, flower and fruit development.
Calcium (Ca): Required for the development of cell walls and the absorption of other nutrients.
Phosphorus (P): Key to root development and flowering.
Magnesium (Mg): Constituent part of chlorophyll, required for photosynthesis.
Trace elements: Small but important additions like boron, which are also necessary for plants.
Of course, the quality of ash depends on the type of wood used.
Ok, I didn't know that volcanic ash is not so good... you did a great job explaining that, yes... I am also educated about it except for the use with boron.
What exactly do you do with it and for which plants do you use it?
Boron is a trace element in ash
Plants' needs for the microelement, boron, are relatively small, but it is one of the biogenic elements that is very important for plants because it affects the yield, thanks to the fact that it promotes fertilization.

@markone85 also says he wants a shower - maybe you can help each other with the plans! It's a fantastic addition to a garden. If you live in a warm climate, even better - right now it's 6 degrees celsius in my garden in Australia so I'll shower in side, thanks! But in the summer, yes please!

Thanks, yes, I think we can have a good chat about the project too. I think @markone85 lives a bit warmer than me here in Germany, but we have hot days too and in winter we still harvest the cabbage. LOOL Wow Australia, I've always been fascinated and shocked at the same time by this continent with so many dangerous animals living there.

I am always up for help and exchange of ideas.
I live in the southeast of Europe, we belong to a moderately continental climate but it is increasingly crossing the Mediterranean
With summer temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, a good shower and a thick cold are a salvation from hot summer days
What a great plan! This is so purposeful. It will indeed require hard work, but if you really have the full determination to realize it, everything is possible. Start the preliminaries, of course, it will need some extra budget, so I guess to get started, you have to start saving for it. It's really motivating that everything and all the details of this dream seem well planned and in place. May you find the energy, enough budget, and enough time to realize this. This sounds great! 💚
That's really nice of you, thank you.
I'm also hoping that I'll get everything together that I need to realise this project, yesterday I already cleared the corner to get an overview of where I want them and whether there's enough sun. But I have to bake small rolls first and do everything bit by bit as I can.
Have a wonderful day and whatever it may bring you.
