Harvest and more.......
Prolonged cold weather, extreme hot weather then thunderstorms - this has been the situation for the last 4 months. I started my garden in April and since then so this has been the situation. Large and small gardeners must work with the weather. We have no choice. However, I am happy that my efforts are not futile.
I often go our for walks as I like to be outside in nature. However, sometimes I escape to my balcony/terrace and I am there for hours. Walk with me as I provide an update about my little garden.
Tomatoes
My tomato plants were not adequately supported during the storms - which came as a surprise. I thought I had time. After the last storm they looked like this.
Luckily the plants were not broken. I used sisal cord to create a hanging support as the sticks were not strong enough.
Now the plants can grow along/around the cord. They have straightened up and are looking well. The first ripened tomatoes were broken as they were water logged. Hopefully now the plants will continue to grow and thrive.
Bell peppers
The bell peppers also survived the storm but now I see holes in the leaves. Phew.
I do not know the nature of the culprit. It could be slugs, moths etc. I’ve made a concoction of organic dishwashing liquid and garlic to spray the plants and I hope this works. Despite this, I see small peppers appearing.
The Harvest
As a "small' scale gardener, any loss seems more dramatic than someone with a big garden. As a result, I am very happy when I can harvest vegetables from my garden.
The carrots were tasty and sweet enough to enjoy by themselves
or in a drink made with lemons and red beets also from my garden.
The lettuce,
snow peas,
and potatoes were plentiful.
Having 32 strawberry plants of different varieties mean that I can have strawberries daily until September. Yummy.

As I do not have a plot of land, harvesting means removing everything that was planted on a specific day. Sometimes I have too much to consume immediately. I shared potatoes, carrots and lettuce with my neighbours. They were amazed that all was grown on my balcony/terrace.
Sowing seeds and Transplanting
As some harvested vegetables are from the table garden - I have already sown some others.
As you can see in this photo - the seeds planted all germinate. Instead of thinning them out by cutting them away - I transplant the seedlings thus having more plants/vegetables.
The courgette (zucchini) already has a small one appearing.
The plants are looking quiet good on my balcony. It is really a pleasure to escape to my little garden daily. I can watch miracles happen: the seeds germinate after showering them with love and water - then soon I have my own wonderful harvest. This is the ultimate satisfaction one can get from nature - beauty and food for our tables.

That's a lot of gardening @momogrow.
I remembered you post about the storm and it's a good thing the tomatoes weren't affected badly. Providing support will go a long way and honestly, you are doing a good job.
The carrot will definitely be tasty and I am surprised with the purple carrot, I will check about them on Google.
Please send me some strawberry... Yummy.
Yes thank you @george-dee. I am so happy - now I will care for them and watch them grow. I M really happy about the carrots. They are thicker and tastier than I expected.
Btw the original carrot was purple and white. 😀
I don't think there's anything as fulfilling as eating your own produce, knowing that it's the product of your hardwork and passion. I'm glad the extreme weathers aren't affecting your crops badly.
We're facing the same thing over here. The cold and hot weather are at extremes. Your strawberries look absolutely mouth watering. Cheers to you!🌺
Yes I am grateful. Although I live in the city -organic seeds and soil and no fertilizer- give the plants a different taste. The best one can get really. It is indeed fulfilling.
Do you have a garden as well? I hope the weather has not affected them.
The strawberries are sooo good!!!
Yeah, I've got a garden. And we're trying our best to control the effect of the weather. So far, everything is going alright.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.🤗
Aww that is great. I will look forward to your posts.
Have a great weekend as well.
I am baffled with the way you give adequate attention to your garden. You are a good Gardner momo..I am sure you can handle planting done with one plot of land..lol
That was a great harvest here despite how wind was interfering back then
Your harvest is an Evidence of good effort applied..good job my friend
Carrot 🥕 is super expensive here, I do not buy them for now
Here you are enjoying the sweetness from your farm and other fruit 🍓
You have a nice balcony fully loaded with healthy plants
Well done ✅
Thank u @nkemakonam89 Haha - a plot of land would be a pleasure although lots of work but a labour of love.
Yes the storm was worrying but thank goodness all is well. The harvest made me and a few neighbours happy.
Do you know what is happening to carrots to cause them to be so expensive?
I do not know why the sudden hike in price of carrot🤷
Storm was really devasting but I like your courage that you are looking after your plants.
Thank you @tahastories1- I absolutely love taking care of my plants. I am really in the “moment” when I am in my garden.
well done , bet those carrots will taste yummy, and the strawberries too, bad luck with the toms.
Yes they were both yummy. The tomatoes are faring well after the extra support. In August - I hope to share a nice harvest.
Nice, very nice
They all look great. So good to see you are producing something for yourself, it must be very fulfilling.
Yes it is a lovely feeling. Last year I made a salad of lettuce, cucumber, red peppers and radishes from my garden - I was so happy.
That's great. Keep it up :)
It's great to hear that your garden is doing well, despite the challenging weather conditions. It's clear that you've put a lot of love and care into it, and it's paying off.
I'm particularly impressed by your tomato plants. They're so tall and healthy! I'm also glad to hear that you're able to share your harvest with your neighbors. It's always a pleasure to share the fruits (literally!) of our labor with others.
Many thanks - yes it was so much fun to take vegetables to my neighbors and then have them visit my magical garden. Most times they are in disbelief. I look forward to planting every year and watch the garden flourish. It is my little haven in the city.
I am impressed! Looks amazing and tasty! You are doing a great job :^)
♥️🦖
Many thanks @vincentnijman. It is so much fun to watch every thing grow. The garden expands every year as I discover that so many veggies grow so easily. My garden is my little haven in the city.
A little h(e)aven ( on earth ) indeed :>)

Indeed 😀
Wonderful harvest. Shame, I'm sorry about your tomatoes but they are quite resilient so should survive. Your strawberries are beautiful and I'm sure they taste even sweeter seeing as you grew them yourself!
Yes thank you. The tomatoes are now standing tall and new flowers have appeared - I am looking forward to good things.
Indeed the strawberries are lovely. It is truly a treat to grow them and enjoy them when I feel like it.
