Planting Watermelons for the First Time and a Surprise Happened
Hello friends, how are you all doing?
For a long time, I've enjoyed taking care of plants, until it became a hobby. I'm aware that a small seed can transform into something grand and bear much fruit. For those who believe, this is a beautiful creation of God. I prefer fruit trees, especially those that we can harvest several times a year.
In addition, I also usually plant vegetables, as these are types of crops that we consume daily at home, such as cilantro, chives, and tomatoes. It's always good to have them at home, and the experience of harvesting what you plant is undoubtedly rewarding. Especially if you have children at home, they can learn from an early age the importance of knowing how to plant.
Watermelon in the Backyard Came to Be
My mother taught me that she likes to throw all the peels of vegetables and greens in the soil. After a while, I read that this is quite important because they are rich in essential nutrients for plants. Fruit peels are also great to put in the soil, as banana peels are rich in potassium, which stimulates flowering and helps the plant resist disease better.
Interestingly, my mother doesn't know so many details, but it's interesting how generations teach these things without needing scientific details, isn't it? Well, one day, I bought a very large watermelon for my family to eat, and I found it so sweet that I wanted to put the seeds along with the watermelon rind in the soil.
For those who don't know, earthworms love these things. I once saw a video on YouTube of someone putting watermelon rind in their wormery, and whenever I can, I do the same thing. Only this time I put in the seeds as well as the rinds. Luckily, after a period during which I wasn't checking the days, I started to see sprouting where I had planted the seeds, and luckily, only one little plant grew.
After a while, I realized how much it had developed. It created three guides and I tried to direct two of them to go near my jaboticaba tree, since there's a lot of mulch with dry leaves there. I started to see its first flowers, beautiful and yellow. And also its first watermelons growing. I'm lucky that the bees in my backyard do a good job of pollination.
But it was my first time, and I had never planted a watermelon before. I had no idea how to do it. So I researched and found out that it takes between 70 and 100 days to harvest. It's quite likely that if it works out, I'll only be able to harvest next year. I say luckily because after a few weeks all the small watermelons didn't work out. Maybe the rain interfered here, I don't know...
But one fine day, I had a pleasant surprise. Near the jaboticaba tree, I spotted a small "ball" in the distance. It was a watermelon developing. Of course, I was happy and called my children to see it too. It's great when something you do works out. I know I can't get too excited because I don't know if this watermelon will make it to the harvest stage, but just the fact that I can see this stage makes me happy.
Well, to be honest, I don't know if it will work, but if I manage to at least harvest a watermelon, I'll let you know here to share it with you. Planting is also great therapy, and since it's a hobby for me, I'm always wanting to plant something in my backyard. And you, have you ever planted a watermelon before? Did you manage to harvest it? I'd love to know in the comments. See you later, everyone!

Comp Surgiu a Melancia no Quintal
Conseguiu colher? Gostaria de saber nos comentários. Até mais pessoal!

Watching your plants thrive especially the watermelon, shows how rewarding it is to grow your own food. Keep sharing your gardening journey.
That's true, it's very rewarding. Thank you!
I'll come back here more often. To bring back a little more of what I plant.
Watermelons are sweet treat in garden
Frequently watering is important
Here I see so much leaves on the ground - I assume it may be late for them now, maybe weather is colder. Yet again I dont know conditions in Brasil.
Time when you plant and watering properly are important.
All best with your watermelons.
Watermelon from our garden this year.
Thank you very much for the tips. I hope to be able to harvest at least one. It's been raining a lot here lately, so I'll reduce watering.
Seeing you're plants like this, healthy and happily growing made ones heart jumped in joy and excited..You're patience in planting watermelon and they already started to grow fruits really paid off..
