More Work After Harvest

After the harvest is over, it's a sign that we have more work to do in the garden.

IMG_7512.jpeg

When harvest time is approaching, we naturally enjoy the days when we have little work to do. We simply water the plants without fertilizing them.

IMG_7511.jpeg

Then, when the harvest is over, more work awaits. Just like in my garden. Some time ago, I did a lot of harvesting. One by one, my plants are entering the end of their productive phase.

I only have a few polybags of lettuce and a few polybags of white bakchoi left. I will harvest them gradually, only taking the lowest leaves.

IMG_7509.jpeg
Meanwhile, my baby green bean plants are entering the end of their productive period. Also, due to the lack of sunlight, the green bean plants are not growing optimally. I decided to remove all the green beans and replace them with other plants later.

IMG_7508.jpeg

Before planting other plants, I will first process the used growing medium from the green bean plants. This process aims to re-fertilize the growing medium. Of course, there were also a lot of remaining roots in the planting medium, so we had to loosen it again.

IMG_7506.jpeg
I had to remove the used planting medium one by one from the polybags. I collected the bundles of planting medium in one area. After I cleaned out the remaining roots, I let the used planting medium dry in the sun for a few days.

IMG_7507.jpeg
It's currently the dry season in my area; it hasn't rained for a month. So I didn't have to worry about drying the used planting medium. I just had to cover the planting medium with bamboo to prevent cats from playing on it and to prevent them from defecating.

After three days, I felt the planting medium had dried enough. Next, I prepared the burnt rice husks and goat manure.

IMG_7510.jpeg

I mixed the used planting medium with the burnt rice husks and the fermented, fine goat manure.

I mixed them thoroughly. Then, I transferred the ready-to-use planting medium into the white pots.

IMG_7513.jpeg
I've prepared six white pots. I'm going to plant long beans. I've also sown the long bean seeds, and they're ready to be transplanted into the white pots I've prepared.

IMG_7514.jpeg

IMG_7515.jpeg

That afternoon, I transplanted the long bean seedlings into the white pots I've prepared.

IMG_7516.jpeg
There's still a lot of growing medium that I haven't transplanted into other containers. I'll give you an update later. I hope you don't get bored of my garden. See you again soon.

Hello, dear friend @anggreklestari, good afternoon.

The great work you do in the garden is admirable. It's great to see how you reuse the soil, refertilizing it. That's the key to your successful harvest.

Congratulations on the admirable work you do.

Have a beautiful afternoon.

It is really nice (and very healthy, too) to grow our own vegetables. But, it is also a lot of work and we have to invest/spend a lot of time and effort in this task.
I see that you have done a great work in your garden.
Best regards

Harvesting time brings most fun and joy but one should not forget that the work after harvesting is very important, too, and pays off in the future... 💪

Who knew there was still so much work after harvest?

You have been so diligent with your gardening. It always looks so neat and tidy, even with the planting medium in a pile. I hope your new beans do well.

Gardening is a continuous and dynamic work. After the harvest, if there's still work to be done, it's because everything is being done right. So, that means: Congrats, @anggreklestari.

A lot of work involved in getting the planting medium ready. I hadn't thought of covering up the dirt to protect it from cats.

Thanks for sharing. Take care.

I always admire people with green thumbs! And that orange flower really caught my eye — it's so vibrant and beautiful. I’m a big fan of the color orange too, so maybe that’s why it stood out to me even more. Love it! 🧡

It never really ends, does it? But it’s so rewarding!
These days, I’ve been making mango jam from the fruit I saved in the fridge, very refreshing in this summer heat. And it doesn’t need any sugar, since mangoes are naturally so sweet.

Greetings, @anggreklestari! Keep that burst of colour alive in your garden.

I agree! After the harvest is over, there is really a lot of work to do in the garden to clean and replant. I admire your dedication - carefully tending to the plants and meticulously choosing the soil for them before planting. It's a lot of work, like when you have to make carbonized rice hull and strain goat manure to get the most refined parts for the pots. And as always, your mini garden looks amazing and well-taken care of.

It's been a while since I last dropped by here, after I got busy with personal matters and emotional struggles, and as always, it's really good to have a peek at your garden. 💚

Your hard work pays off. Gardening really needs extra effort and time but if you love what you're doing you'll be surprised how time flies fast. Now you are busy for the preparation and planting, the next time you are already up to harvesting what you sow. Looking forward to more of your gardening experiences you will share!
