Nature has blessed us with so many herbs which could be both medicinal and pleasurable.

I have a couple of plants in my garden which can make me a good drink. Poaceae plant provides me with a drink called "Kunnu" from this part of the world.

While I was growing, my mom prepared another kind of drink from plants in our garden called "zobo". This drink is made out of the hibiscus sabdariffa plant. This drink used to be one of my favorite drinks. It is usually very tasty especially when served chilled.

I was taught that the zobo drink is not just nutritious but also medicinal. These are a few of some of the good things nature has blessed us with.

However, today I would be talking about two plants that provides me with good drinks from my garden.

The lemon grass tea. This plant is a very fine plant. First of, I love the pleasant smell it brings. It's like a sweet smelling fragrance.

Aside from the pleasant smell it has, it's both medicinal and nutritious.

When I am sick, I just cut some, wash thoroughly and steam for a few minute. The steam can be inhaled covering myself with a duvet. Most of all, the lemon grass tea is meant to be drunk.

This tea does a lot good to the body system. It boost immunity, increases appetite, it fight against infection, and also aid digestion. These are few benefits I know of.

During the COVID-19🦠😷 era, I and my family consumed it a lot with a blend of garlic and ginger. Sometimes we add milk to it and it really helped our immune system amidst the chaos.

The coconut is another one. The water in it is all you need hehe. Just crack it open and insert a straw. This drink is very nutritious as well and serves as an anti poison to some extent. I recall when my nephew had severe stomach ache , my mom gave him some coconut water and it subsided.

One can even make a smoothie with it.

I have many more plants too like the laali leaf. I don't know the botanical name for it. It is boiled with some pineapple peels, it helps to fight against malaria and Typhoid.

The unripe plantain is another one. The peel can be soaked in water to ferment for some days, afterwards it is safe to consume as a drink. It heals ulcer if consumed regularly for a couple of months.

I knew all of these because I lived with an aged person and, I tapped from their wealth of knowledge.

The beautiful thing about nature is the healing components in almost every plant that can also serve as a drink. Spme are quite bitter, others sour, some are very tasty but all have a common purpose: healing and adding value to our life.

These I shared are the ones I know about and I would also love to learn more if you know of any. Hehe Learning never stops!

Having plants in our garden that help us through aches and pains, improve our immune system and more is a real treasure. We are lucky.
