Micro and Klein Garden Journal 2025.08.24 / 大小庭の記録

Here in eastern Germany, the days have been cool, with highs of around 20°C. It’s comfortable, but I can’t help wondering—are we in summer, or already in autumn? I’d like to enjoy summer just a little longer.

Micro Balcony Update

With the cool weather earlier this month, some of the tomato plants on the balcony weakened, and I decided to pull a few of them out. In the empty spaces, I planted salad seedlings I had picked up at the market. There are still small harvests here and there—some late-season strawberries and a tomatoes.

The balcony feels rather slow, almost autumn-like already, but I’ve been enjoying it with a cup of tea or coffee, accepting it as part of the season.

The “Klein” but Big Garden

This week, my daughter and I visited the garden a few times. One evening we went there, and the garden in the evening light had its own special charm. We were the only ones around, and my daughter sang her favorite Ariana Grande songs with a zucchini microphone. Haha, kids are creative!

The zucchinis are at their peak now, and other cucurbits like cucumbers and bitter gourds have just started to set fruit. Since this is my first year with the garden, I made some mistakes with planting positions, but I’ll make use of this year’s experience to have a much bigger harvest next year.

The summer garden always give souveneers, and I feel so grateful for them. I enjoy packing the colorful harvests in containers.

To-Do for Next Week

I’d like to finally tackle cleaning out the garden shed—the task I keep saying I’ll get to. I have a slightly bigger job at the beginning of the week, so once that’s done, I’ll turn to it. I’m even starting to think it might be worth getting a small vacuum cleaner just for the garden.

私が住んでいるドイツ東部では最高気温20度ほどの涼しい日が続いています。過ごしやすくはありますが、夏なのか、秋なのか・・・もうちょっと夏を堪能したいです。

マイクロバルコニーの様子

バルコニーでは、今月の初めの涼しさで、弱ってしまったトマトがあり、思い切って何本か抜きました。空いたスペースにはマーケットで買ってきたサラダの苗を植えました。ちょっとずつ収穫もあり、晩生のいちごやトマトがぱらぱらとれています。

バルコニーはなんともスローで、もう秋のような感じですが、そんなこともあるよねとお茶やコーヒーを持って出て楽しんでいます。

"Klein"だけれど大きい庭の様子

今週は子供とちょこちょこ庭に遊びに行きました。一度夕方に遊びに行って、夕方の庭もまたよかったです。庭にいたのは私たちだけで、子供はズッキーニをマイクにして最近大好きなAriana Grandeを熱唱していました。

庭ではズッキーニが最盛期で、同じくウリ類のきゅうりとゴーヤが実をつけ始めました。今年は庭の1年目で植える位置をややミスってしまい、今年の経験を来年にいかして来年はがっつり収穫したいです。

夏の庭は、毎度いろいろお土産を持たせてくれてうれしい限りです。

来週のTODO

ずっとやるやるといっている庭の小屋の掃除に手をつけたいです。週の初めに少し大きな仕事があるので、それを終えたら。庭用に小さな掃除機を買ってもいいのかもと思い始めました。
