In previous posts, I have mentioned that my guide in the world of gardening was my mother. She was my teacher as far as I allowed her to be, and although I did not learn everything she knew, 80% of what I know today I learned from her.

I do not remember exactly if she mentioned it to me or if I saw her doing it, but I know that my mother insisted a lot on the importance of talking to plants. At first, it seemed crazy to me, but after other conversations and remembering that they are living beings, it all made sense.

My mother was a woman who used many examples to help me understand situations or to understand certain points or subjects of study. This helped me a lot to see things more clearly, just as she did with plants and talking to them.

Now, she used me as an example, telling me or reminding me that we all like to hear nice things or to be told what is expected of us. In other words, motivation is not only for humans; plants need it too.

On the other hand, on several occasions I witnessed her talking to her plants, sometimes making requests in the most affectionate way, sometimes approaching them to tell them how beautiful they were, sometimes to ask them for more leaves or flowers, sometimes to ask them what was wrong, but I also saw her scold them after talking to them affectionately for some time and getting no results.

A few years ago, one of my favorite plants looked very damaged, some of its leaves had a yellow tint, and my mother recommended that, in addition to removing its soil and adding some fertilizer or more nutrient-rich soil, I change its environment and talk to it more. It was impressive to see how, in less than a month, the change in the plant was evident.

The same thing has happened to me with others, especially with a rose in the garden in front of my house. I understand that this plant is my age, as it was given to my grandmother after I was born, and at some point it stopped blooming and is not the same as before. I think this is partly because it is not getting direct sunlight as it used to, due to the growth of the avocado tree.

But I think a good part of its sadness is also due to the fact that no one talks to it. So, a year ago, I started talking to it and also pruned it, telling it that I wanted to see it grow big and strong and produce many flowers as it did before. Surprisingly, the plant has produced new branches with the little light it receives and also flowers, which lets me know that my words and actions are taken and perceived by it.

I won't deny that sometimes I just water it and that's it, but I know that talking to plants makes them think differently and even respond to our requests. I'll sign off by leaving my contribution to the question of the week here: Week 28 Talking To Plants

Mi madre era una mujer que usaba muchos los ejemplos para hacerme comprender situaciones o para que entendiera algunos puntos o materias de estudio. Esto me ayudaba mucho a ver los temas de manera más clara, de la misma manera lo hizo con las plantas y las charlas con estas.

Ahora bien, me uso como ejemplo a mí, al decirme o recordarme que a todos nos gusta que nos digan cosas bonitas o que nos hagan saber que esperan de nosotros, palabras más palabras menos que la motivación no es solo para los seres humanos, las plantas también las necesitan.

Por otra parte, en varias oportunidades presencié como ella hablaba con sus plantas, a veces les hacía peticiones de la manera más cariñosa, también se acercaba para decirles que estaban hermosas, en otros para solicitarles más hojas o flores, a veces para preguntarles qué pasaba, pero también la vi regañarlas luego de hablarles durante algún tiempo con cariño y no obtener resultados.

Hace ya unos cuantos años una de mis plantas favoritas lucía muy estropeada algunas de sus hojas tenían una tonalidad amarilla y mi madre me recomendó además de remover su tierra y agregarle algo de abono o más tierra con nutrientes, que la cambiara de ambiente y hablará más con ella, fue impresionante ver como en menos de un mes el cambio de la planta era evidente.

De la misma manera me ha ocurrido con otras, en especial con una rosa que está en los jardines frente ami casa, esta planta tengo entendido tiene mi edad, ya que se la regalaron a mi abuela tras mi nacimiento y en algún punto ella dejó de dar flores y no es la misma de antes creo que en parte de debe a que no está recibiendo luz solar directa como lo hacía antes, esto es debido al crecimiento del árbol de aguacate.

Pero creo que buena parte de su tristeza también se debe a que nadie conversa con ella., así hace ya un año comencé a conversar con ella y además la podé, señalándole que deseaba verla crecer grande, fuerte y dar muchas flores como lo hacía antes. Sorprendentemente , la planta ha dado ramas nuevas con la poca luz que recibe y también flores, eso me hace saber que mis palabras y acciones son tomadas y percibidas por ella.

No negaré que a veces solo paso regando y listo, pero sé que el hablar con las plantas las hace creer de manera diferente y hasta respuesta dan a nuestras peticiones. Me despido dejando por acá mi participación en la pregunta de la semana Week 28 Talking To Plants
