I Defeated the Hollow Knight in Steel Soul Mode
Hello and welcome back to my blog!

On my quest to achieve the rarest achievement in Hollow Knight, I defeated two dreamers, upgraded my nail to pure nail, got all the spells upgraded and now it was time to take down the final dreamer and then Hollow Knight.
This last dreamer is Lurien the Watcher, who is on top of the City of Tears, watching over the city. Now, he is just lying in a dream state protected by the Watcher's Knight.
I should mention that I hate this boss fight, even though some don't consider it a tough challenge; it just doesn't seem to work out for me. I have played this game like 3-4 times now and defeated them a lot of times too, but each time they would knock me out first. But since I am playing on the Steel Soul mode difficulty, where death would mean the end of the run. I cannot afford to lose. There are no checkpoints here. With some fear in my soul, I went on to challenge them.
I can take care of them one at a time but they fight in pairs. And those spinny attacks are very unpredictable. Good thing that I had the double jump and Shade cloak to avoid taking damage from them.
I got down to 3 hearts but nothing that I couldn't manage. I was being very careful and that worked in my favour. My build was focused on more attacking strength as well so I can take them down quickly. And it worked like a charm (pun intended).
After this boss is done I was feeling pretty confident. Somehow I always think that beating Hollow Knight is easier than beating these bugs lol.
The Hollow Knight
I was all set to take down the Hollow Knight. This would give me the second rarest achievement in the game, where you beat the game in the Steel Soul mode. I still had to do more optional content to get the 100%, but still killing the HK in Steel soul mode is pretty rare. Only about 4% of the players got this achievement.
I had to record this moment not just for the others, but for myself. Just a couple of years ago I was thinking who are these insane players who beat the game in Steel Soul mode. And now I was in their shoes.
Here is the full video of entering the Temple of the Black Egg and fighting Hollow Knight, and the end credits. I didn't edit out the end credits and the message because it is a different completion message than the normal game. Enjoy!
The only thing that was going on in my mind while fighting him is not to panick. I knew all his moves and I was fairly confident but the fear of losing it all at the end is insane. You can see me trying to just heal myself a lot, especially at the start. I think, focusing on more damage output would be better than trying to heal in some places but I didn't want to take the risk. That's why I was extra defensive at the start.
Also, the fact that I was fighting him after some time, too. I had to adjust to some of his moves. Once it starts to stab itself, it gets easier, and we can heal easily or just collect enough souls to spam it with spells.
I love this boss fight, one of my favourites in the game. This music is so damn good. At first, you are fighting a powerful opponent, one of your siblings, who is corrupted and used to contain the infection. But now that the infection is spreading, you have to defeat it and help it.
When in the mid way he starts stabbing himself and the tune changes to be sad you feel for the knight. He is trying to help you by attacking the infection within himself. This is when you realise that we are not fighting a demon but a hero who was a source of an inspiration to the entire kingdom, who helped them get rid of this mysterious infection.
We absorbed all its infection and in this ending, we kinda became the Hollow Knight containing the infection without our vessel.

I love that the end credit message now has an extra line just to honour me for completing the Steel Soul run. What an incredible journey it was. But as you can see from the game completion section. I have completed just 89% and still need to get to do some more things to get that completion to 100%. That will not be too difficult but I have to kill the Hollow Knight again after that. Hopefully, I can do it without much difficulty just like this time.

You've made me remember when I used to play this game...
Whew... I haven't played it in a while and I miss it...
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man. I keep replaying the game again and again...waiting for Silksong to drop.
I must have a bad connection :( I can't see the post to read it.
That's a huge win. Consistency is your friend. Nice one
Seemed like the knight was quite stronger than you. Good job on defeating it.
Also, I must admire your skills for being able to successfully dodge those fireballs.
I face similar attacks in metal slugs all the time, but every time they get me.
Those fireballs are not easy to dodge, sometimes you get lucky with the timing like I did this time hehe
The Hollow Knight boss of Hollow Knight was really hard to beat but you finally beat him. You have explained the steps of this battle very nicely. I really like your patience and skill with this game. I am looking forward to your next post, I hope you post very soon😊
When I faced the final boss I was so focused that I defeated him in a single attempt.
Damn, that's impressive bro. Did you try the Radiance fight?
no
It's incredible that you've reached this point. You have a lot of perseverance. I love this game, but I'm really bad at it, haha. In the end, I get frustrated and quit. I tried it a few times, but it's not my thing, but seeing those kinds of battles seems incredible to me. Good luck on your path with 100% achievements.

This is true with almost all bosses in this game. Getting freaked out and going mad with buttons never ends well for a player and that is part of what makes this game so special. I am impressed you pulled this off, I wouldn't have been able to do that even when I was at my best in this game.
