More Than a Farm: Stardew Valley

avatar

Hello to all of you, I finally played this game. The game is very cheap right now in the summer sale and I was going to buy it, but my brother told me that he already had the game and I started playing the game from his account. I have to say that I have been wanting to play the game for a very long time, but I didn't have much time and I didn't have the game. Anyway, let's not beat around the bush and let's move on to my review of the game.

Gameplay

I already knew before I started this game that it wasn't a simple farming game, but I didn't realize how detailed it was. There are so many things you can do in the game and farming is like 10% of the game. You fish, you forage, you chop trees, you break stones, I haven't even mentioned the mines yet and I can't because I haven't gotten there yet. The gameplay is really simple so you can almost do everything with one button. You can even do it with your mouse. Interacting with people, fishing, one button is enough for everything.

When you start the game, there's a nice story. We get tired of work life and decide to settle down on a farm that we inherited from our grandfather. The mayor of the town welcomes us and gives us some tips. Also some seeds for sowing. First thing in the morning we clear some of the stones and trees inside our farm and plant the seeds. We plant them but don't forget to water them. They don't grow if you don't water them. If it rains, you don't need to water them. By the way, there are some missions in the game. As you complete these tasks you get gold but you don't have to do them. You can play the game the way you want.

After the farm work is done, you can start walking around. The game has a nice and average sized map. You can visit fishermen, blacksmiths, shopping centers and more. For example, when you go to the fishmonger, he will give you a fishing rod and you can start fishing with it. I must say it's difficult at the beginning, especially the first time I didn't understand anything, but then I figured it out. You can fish anywhere there is water. A little tip, if there are bubbles coming out from somewhere in the water you can catch fish faster. Otherwise you will have to wait for a while.

You can interact with all the people you see on the map, children, old people and adults. Although some of them may ignore you... I don't like you, Pam! When you talk to them, sometimes they will tell you that they have written a song and they want you to give them an idea of the lyrics, I don't know if this will be useful in the future, but it's still fun. One thing I like about people is that they all really have jobs. So they're all interested in something and they're not waiting for you to come and talk to them. For example Pam lives in a trailer and sometimes you can find her there and sometimes she goes out for a walk. If you want an easy way to interact, wait for birthdays or visit the town hall in the evening. You can see a lot of people there every evening.

Before I finish the gameplay I will give you a few tips. For example, every day ends at 2 o'clock at night and you should be in bed by then. If not you will faint and you will have to pay gold to the doctor. After you have harvested your first crops you can continue to earn money quickly by buying seed potatoes from the shop in town. If you can't buy them there, you can also buy them at the Joja market, but for more money. Sometimes you will see announcements in front of the shop to improve your relationship with people. They will ask you for things and if you fulfill them you will earn money and your relationship will improve. You can run out of energy quickly, so don't start breaking stones and cutting trees as soon as you wake up in the morning. First go around the map and collect some collectible things. This will give you energy so you don't have to finish the day at noon. Make a box first thing because you won't be able to carry a lot of stuff with you and you don't want to throw things away, right? If you build the bridge on the beach for 300 wood you can sell the seafood you collect there to the fisherman every day and earn a lot of money. Wow, it seems like there's no end to these tips, I think that's enough.

Graphics

The graphics of this game are so cute. I wouldn't say it's top-notch graphics, but the tiny details are well thought out and obviously a lot of work has gone into making the game beautiful. The lack of high-end graphics makes the game playable on any device. Even if you have a bad computer, don't worry, you can play this game. The animations of the characters moving are also very good. The whole environment in the game is very well designed. You don't see gaps on the map. Everything has a purpose. I don't know if the drawings are done by hand or not, but sometimes it gives that feeling.

Sounds

I can say that the sounds in the game are good. They add a peaceful atmosphere. The only problem is that the game sounds were too loud at the beginning and gave me a headache lol. Other than that, I really liked the water sound and the ambient sound. I guess I don't hear every sound in the game because I turn the volume down too much, but I'm sure I feel better this way. You can adjust it to the way that suits you.

I need to play more to learn more about the game. I've only played the game for 5-6 hours, maybe I'll write a different post after 45-50 hours, but that's for now. I will also add a few screenshots that I took from the game that I liked.

Ah, this game. I poured so many hours into it years ago, and I do miss it. Maybe this is a good reminder to pick it back up. I'm definitely tempted by reading your post and seeing all the screenshots.

I'll give you a tip even if you haven't asked for it - hope that's okay. Just north-west of the town square, there's an abandoned house where everything is broken. Each room has a point of interest where you can insert items somehow. The tip is; Map out the items that are needed, and make sure to collect them through the seasons! By doing this you'll gain some pretty significant perks early in the game, if I recall correctly. I remember ignoring this for over two in-game years before I understood its importance (an importance I now cannot recall what was, so follow this advice at your own risk xD).

Anyways, great writeup!

I remember seeing a house like that. I think I need to fix it first. I'll take that into consideration. Thank you for your kind words and really this game deserves all the praise.

And to think that the game was made by just one passionate guy. It makes the game even more worthy. Nice review, bro.

That's true, today games that are developed by a total company with a great team of workers in the background, and at the time of release, are not so good games.

It's really amazing that only one person made this game. Unbelievable!

So far I have been playing, I haven't fainted haha, but I also didn't know that we had to pay with gold, that's interesting.

I'm not going to the mines yet, I'm always expanding and clearing my land, to have more space.

It's amazing to see that so many people like this game, about 7 days ago I wrote about this game that I also love, and to see it here today is great, very good your post my friend, and I hope you have a great time in it.

Stardew Valley is a fantastic game! I've poured so many hundreds of hours into it. 😅 The developer, ConcernedApe, is in the middle of making his second game at the moment... I can't wait to spend 800 odd hours in that too! Haha!

I hope you continue to enjoy your time in this game. 😊

If I may offer a couple of tips: fishing will give you the most money early on. If you find a 'prismatic shard' keep it! And don't sell absolutely everything, keep a few things for cooking later on and for completing the abandoned Community Centre, also to give gifts for the townspeople. 😃

Thank you so much for the tips. Yeah, I've seen that fishes are nice for early times. I need to catch more fish and plant more plants :P I'll save some valuable things for these community centre and else. Game is perfect 💯

You have just entered one of the best games ever created. As you mentioned, the game doesn't have super realistic graphics, but visually it is beautiful and conveys a lot to you, especially when it rains or at night when everything is mysterious. I've felt like playing it again, I hope you enjoy your next hours of gameplay, there are many mysteries and things to discover.
