Tearaway Unfolded gameplay and first impressions
Crafts come to life 👀🎮
Tearaway Unfolded is an imaginative and visually striking action-adventure game developed by Media Molecule (creators of Dreams) and Tarsier Studios. Originally released for the PlayStation Vita in 2013 as Tearaway, the game was later reimagined and expanded for the PlayStation 4 as Tearaway Unfolded in 2015. Known for its unique art style and innovative use of the PlayStation's features, the game invites players to embark on a papercraft-inspired journey through a vibrant and enchanting world.
In Tearaway Unfolded, players control the character known as either Atoi or Iota depending on your choice of male or female, customizable messenger characters made entirely of paper. The game's distinctive visual design mimics a papercraft world, with every element, from characters to the environment, resembling intricately crafted paper creations. The use of the PlayStation 4's controller features, such as the touchpad and motion controls, enhances the gameplay by allowing players to interact with the paper-themed world in creative ways. This integration of the hardware features not only adds to the charm of the game but also makes it an immersive and engaging experience.
The game received praise for its charming narrative, clever puzzles, and the inventive use of the platform's unique capabilities. Tearaway Unfolded seamlessly combines platforming elements with creative and interactive gameplay mechanics, providing a delightful experience for players of all ages. Its innovative design, coupled with a heartwarming story and attention to detail in the papercraft aesthetics, solidifies Tearaway Unfolded as a standout title that showcases the creative potential of video games as an art form.
This game seemed like it had a soul, but the motion and touchpad controls both annoyed me enough to make me quit it earlier than I should have. You can see for yourself how it all went for me in my gameplay video below.

Such posts are very special for people who are very fond of playing such games so I will definitely play this game.
I had a lot of fun with this game. I thought it was a very unique take on gaming and the dark parts of it were particularly fun for me even though they ended up being whimsical in the end. I never completed this one and may have to go back and give i a look again.
This was tough for me to get past as well. Just because the controller is capable of this, doesn't mean that we actually want to use it.
Motion controls should be for VR only.
I agree. I don't want to hover the controller in front of my face to get things done.
