A Link to the Past

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate digging into some really fond memories via an oldschool game!

A Link to the Past

I've been spending a LITTLE too much time on something I didn't think I would! :D

I think the Zelda games are one of my all-time favorites. There are certainly a lot of games in that category, but Zelda was really the first of it's kind in a lot of ways, to have an RPG game that was developed in the manner that it was.

For me, the name A Link to the Past is accurate on so many levels! It connects me to my childhood and the awesome memories I have playing these games for hours. Sure it may not have been the BEST thing in the world, but it kept me out of trouble and gave me some really good memories to look back on. Having found some oldschool game abilities in the last few months, I've really dug into them!

My biggest frustration with the game though is that I can't save it! It's not working at least.. so it was very frustrating and challenging in the first few days of me playing. I tried lots of things and ended up freezing the game a few times by accident pressing the wrong button. I finally landed on a way I can continue to play it without losing my progress: don't close the damn browser LOL

This isn't ideal on a few fronts.. but I'm hoping I can beat the game in a week or so more, as strange as that sounds, so that I can finally restart my computer. At the moment, I have been VERY careful not to let my computer battery die, or to let the thing reboot hahaha. Gotta get the game finished before I can relax!

The funny thing about it as well is that it's actually pretty damn challenging to this day! I am currently stuck on one of the early bosses, despite having pretty decked out gear and lots of stuff, I am struggling to get the right strategy to beat it. I've read a few things online and I know HOW I can beat it, but translating how into actually doing it is more difficult that is sounds! LOL

I've been having a lot of personal fun with this though. It has indeed cut into my Hive time which is unfortunate but we have to have some balance and I really haven't played a game this intently for a really long time, years even. I certainly played Wolfenstein or Doom here and there, but I was fine leaving it alone for 3 or 4 days and coming back to it. With Zelda, I am looking forward to spending an hour or so every night to see how much more progress I can make! LOL

What about you, have you found an oldschool game from your childhood that you started to play again? What game is it? Let me know in the comments!

Oh that's great, Link to the Past was one of the very first games I played on the SNES. To this day, I still haven't beaten it 😂 I was close, I had literally made it to Ganondorf and I think I'm just stuck at the battle.

Anyway, I named my protagonist Fart, and that was really great ❤️

Oh man that's hilarious lol. I don't remember if I beat it or not but I'm pretty sure I did. I'm getting close to the end!

Awesome name too though :D

Was this the one for the SNES? I only ever got to play it when I was at my friends house because I didn't have an SNES. What was the name of the second one for NES?

Yeah this is the one for SNES! It was for sure my favorite. I'm glad that we had an SNES, but we didn't have a Sega or Dreamcast so there was for sure some game swapping going on with my friends. One of my friends was a huge Sega guy, and whenever we wanted to play it we went there!

There were a few Zelda's that I know of, this one and I think Ocarina of Time? I don't know if that was N64 though!

I'm pretty sure the second one was more of a side scroller and less of a top down style, but it had a map screen if I remember correctly.
