River City Girls Round 5: Lights, music, and action! - A sunset with Noize [Eng/Esp]

Happy weekend, Hive Gaming community! We're back with this awesome beat 'em up, a tribute to the glorious Technōs Japan Corp. sagas: Kunio-kun and Double Dragon. Last week, we left off facing the mighty Abobo! It was basically a nostalgic chapter for the Double Dragon saga, and what a tribute it was! They replicated even the smallest details in this final boss, including its difficulty. If you're interested in learning all the details behind this boss, I've included links to the previous chapters below.

In this chapter, we continue our adventure to Altos del Mar, as the information Abobo gave us after defeating him indicated that we would most likely find Kyoko and Misako's crushes at Noize's concert there. But before leaving, we farmed a couple of levels, items, and money in downtown River City to be prepared for the next area.

The battle with Abobo left us without supplies, and the amount of coins he gave us upon defeating him was paltry! So I had to spend a good while farming so that later, upon arriving in Altos del Mar, I could visit the shops to buy supplies and check out the move scrolls for purchase. Interestingly, the person serving us at the Dojo in this new area is Billy from Double Dragon! This game never tires of referencing my childhood!! Even so, the moves he had for sale were the same, so I didn't buy anything new there, but I did acquire a large amount of food, medicine, and accessories.

High Seas: New Enemies and Better Weapons

This area is part of the River City coastline. It appeared in SNES games before, but the care they put into its creation is evident. It has that nostalgic feel of other games like Streets of Rage, which also had a beach level. Here, the enemies are faster and recover more quickly, so you're constantly moving and using special moves. My favorite weapon here, and the one you'll see throughout most of my adventure, is the giant tuna. It's as good as the lightsaber, sending enemies flying when you hit them. Its durability is quite high, and if you throw it and it hits, it usually returns to your position. It's the perfect weapon for dealing with waves of enemies, but when I'm in a one-on-one fight, I usually execute full combos.

In this area, there's practically only one mission: get into the Noize concert to find Kunio & Ricky. There's a side mission to save Godai from a bully who's threatening him; it's in the boulevard restrooms. I don't even consider it a side mission because it was so easy to defeat him. So we took him down, collected our reward, and focused on our main mission: Noize's Concert.

Looking For VIP Ticket
Upon arriving at the Altos del Mar port, we learned that the concert would be held on a luxury cruise ship, meaning the tickets wouldn't be cheap, and yet the line of fans was already long. When we asked the doorman, he told us that for direct entry we'd need a VIP pass; otherwise, we'd have to wait in line with everyone else. Since Misako didn't have time to wait for hours to get into the concert, she decided to find a way to get VIP tickets.

The search led us to the most exclusive area of the coast, where the wealthiest people of River City live. There, we find a character who has two spare tickets to the concert, but he'll give them to whoever can answer three very personal questions about Noize as a test to determine our level of fandom. Obviously, our protagonists don't know the three answers, so they have to find the clues to answer the questions and win the concert tickets.

We find the answers to the questions. First, on the beach, after fighting off waves of enemies with tuna, we find Mihoko, who brought her puppy to the concert because it's the same breed as Noize's. With such fandom, she tells us the name of Noize's pet, and we have the first answer. We find the second answer at the fish market, where a poster advertises his favorite dish.

We got the last clue at the amusement park, where Kaori told us that tickets for the concert had sold out months ago, and to make matters worse, they could only be purchased in Bunsonville, Noize's hometown. This gave us the answer to the last question we needed. We returned to the exclusive beach resort and answered the three remaining questions to win two VIP passes to Noize's concert, which was starting in just a few hours.

Once we had the tickets, we farmed for a couple of minutes on the beach for experience and money to buy supplies and accessories, but before heading to the port, we stopped by the Spa to regenerate our health and energy. This service has been around since the first River City Ransom, where you could see Kunio and Ricky taking a sauna to recover; it's great to see they brought back this original detail from the first NES game. Once we were ready, we headed to the port to face Noize.

Ready to Rock!
You know you're about to have a truly epic battle when you see a villain's entrance like this! It's brutal; it reminds me of the movie Scott Pilgrim, where music and video games are masterfully combined. Just as Noize's introduction is about to begin with the cry of "Ready to Rock!" Kyoko and Misako appear to stop everything.

Our protagonists burst onto the stage to demand to know what Noize did with her boyfriends, to which she replies that they're crazy and orders security to remove them! But then Kyoko recognizes her—Noize is Nozomi, whom she met in middle school when she moved from Bunsonville. Kyoko was her best friend when she first arrived at Nekketsu High School and didn't know anyone, but they drifted apart when Kyoko was caught stealing basketballs. Even so, Noize hasn't forgiven her for abandoning her, much less for embarrassing her in public. So this will only be resolved in one way: a musical duel!

This battle is as intense as it is epic! First, Noize starts playing her guitar, launching a sequence of button attacks that we have to dodge by jumping. Landing in a sequence means taking a massive hit that drains a lot of health. When Noize finishes, she launches an area attack at you. While it's not an instant kill, you'll have to dodge it because it does a lot of damage. Only then can you attack her. She'll defend herself with her guitar and by throwing her fans at you, who will then attack you while Noize throws her guitar at you.

Noize can be said to have three phases: each time she leaves the stage to fight you; each time she does so and her health bar decreases, the intensity of the concert and the button sequence you have to dodge increases dramatically; and of course, when she reaches the last third of her health, she enters Frenzy mode. Her attacks become faster, she launches missiles, and the number of fans increases, making the battle extremely challenging. But combining simple attacks and finishing them with a special move is enough to defeat her.

When we finally manage to defeat her, she tells us the same thing all the poor souls who had the misfortune of running into these girls say: they know absolutely nothing. In fact, she asks them if they really are her boyfriends, shouldn't they know where they are? They reply that they don't know and suspect they've been kidnapped. Noize then tells them that if they've been kidnapped, they must be in the hands of Sabuko's criminal empire at Sanwakai Tower, so we'll have to get moving to finally rescue Kunio and Ricky.

Noize
Well, folks, that concludes the 5th episode of this fun adventure. It's interesting how this story is developing, because when Technōs Japan Corp initially launched its franchise with the game Renegade, its first success and a precursor to the River City and Double Dragon series, they wondered if the sequel should continue focusing on high school students when they'd have to fight gangsters. This led to the creation of Double Dragon, leaving the Kunio series reduced to fights against punks and other high school students. River City Girls takes the initial concept of high school girls having to face them all, so I suppose the next level will go in that direction. In the next chapter we will see the level of challenge that awaits us; for now, I can only wish you health and good fortune.

Feliz fin de semana comunidad de Hive Gaming! Retomamos nuevamente este genial beat´em up que es un homenaje a gloriosas sagas de Technōs Japan Corp: Kunio Kun & Double Dragón. La semana pasada habíamos dejado nuestra aventura enfrentando al poderoso Abobo! Fue básicamente un capítulo nostálgico a la saga Double Dragon y que homenaje! Replicaron hasta el más mínimo detalle en este jefe final, incluyendo su dificultad. Si te interesa conocer a detalle toda la historia detrás de este jefe, te dejo los enlaces a los capítulos anteriores abajo.

En este capítulo continuamos nuestra aventura hacia Altos del Mar ya que la información que nos dio Abobo al derrotarlo fue que lo más probable era que consiguiéramos a los crush de Kyoko y Misako en el concierto de la vocalista Noize en Altos del Mar. Pero antes de partir farmeamos un par de niveles, objetos y dinero en el centro de River City para llegar preparados a la siguiente área.

La batalla con Abobo nos dejó sin suministro y al derrotarlo fue una miseria la cantidad de monedas que nos dio! Por eso tuve que pasar un buen rato farmeando para posteriormente al llegar a altos del mar pasar por las tiendas para comprar suministros y echarle un vistazo a los pergaminos de movimientos para comprar. Curiosamente, quien nos atiende en el Dojo de esta nueva área es Billy de Double Dragon! Este juego no se cansa de hacer referencia a mi infancia!! Aun así los movimientos que tenía en venta son los mismo así que no compre nada nuevo alli, pero si me hice con gran cantidad de alimentos, medicinas y accesorios.

Altos del Mar: Nuevos Enemigos y Mejores Armas

Esta área forma parte de las costas de River City, en juegos de Snes ya había aparecido, pero se aprecia el cuidado que han tenido al crearla, tiene esa sensación nostálgica de otros juegos como Street of Rage que también tenía un nivel en la playa. Aquí los enemigos son más rápidos y tardan menos tiempo en recuperarse así que estas constantemente moviéndote y ejecutando especiales. En particular aquí mi arma favorita y que veras en la mayor parte de mi aventura es el atún gigante, es tan buena como la espada laser enviando a los enemigos muy lejos cuando los golpeas, su resistencia es bastante alta y si lo lanzas y aciertas suele regresar a tu posición. Es el arma perfecta para lidiar con las oleadas de enemigos, pero cuando estoy en un mano a mano suelo ejecutar combos completos.

En esta área prácticamente la misión es una sola, entrar al concierto de Noize para buscar a Kunio & Ricky. Hay una misión secundaria que es salvar a Godai de un Bully que lo tiene amenazado, se encuentra en los baños del bulevard ni siquiera lo considero una misión secundaria por lo fácil que fue derrotarlo. Así que lo doblegamos, cobramos nuestra recompensa y nos enfocamos en nuestra misión principal: El Concierto de Noize.

Buscando Entrada VIP
Al llegar al puerto de Altos del Mar nos enteramos que el concierto se realizará en un crucero de lujo, indicando que la entrada no será barata y aún así la fila de fanáticos es larga. Al preguntarle al portero nos dice que para un pase directo necesitaremos un pase VIP, fuera de eso nos tocará esperar en la fila junto a toda la plebe. Como Misako no tiene tiempo para esperar horas para entrar al concierto decide buscar de alguna manera las entradas VIP.

La búsqueda nos lleva a la zona más exclusiva de la costa, donde están los más adinerados de River City. Alli conseguimos a un personaje que tiene 2 tickets de sobra para el concierto, pero se los dará a quien pueda contestarle 3 preguntas muy personales sobre Noize a manera de prueba para determinar nuestro nivel de fanatismo. Obviamente nuestras protagonistas no conocen las 3 respuestas así que les toca encontrar las pistas para poder responder las preguntas y ganarse las entradas al concierto.

Conseguimos las repuestas a las preguntas, primero en la playa donde después de lidiar con oleadas de enemigos a fuerza de atún, nos encontramos Mihoko que trajo su cachorro al concierto porque es de la misma raza que tiene Noize, con semejante fanatismo nos cuenta el nombre de la mascota de Noize y ya tenemos le primera respuesta. La segunda la encontramos en la pescadería, donde un afiche promociona el plato favorito.

La última pista la conseguimos en el parque de atracciones, donde Kaori nos comenta que los boletos para el concierto se agotaron hace muchos meses atrás y para mayor dificultad, solo podían comprarse en Bunsonville, la ciudad natal de Noize y así conseguimos la respuesta a la última pregunta que necesitábamos. Regresamos al Resort exclusivo de la playa y contestamos las 3 preguntas para ganarnos 2 pases VIP para el concierto de Noize que será en pocas horas.

Una vez con las entradas, farmeamos un par de minutos en la playa por experiencia y dinero para comprar suministros y accesorios, pero antes de ir al puerto, pasamos por el servicio de Spa para regenerar salud y energía. Este servicio existe desde el primer River City Ransom, donde podías ver a Kunio y Ricky tomar un sauna para recuperarse, es genial ver que rescataron este detalle tan original que tenía el 1er juego de NES. Una vez preparados, nos dirigimos al puerto listos para enfrentar a Noize.

¡Listo para Rockear!
Sabes que estas por tener una verdadera batalla épica cuando ves una entrada de villano como esta! Es brutal, me recuerda a la película Scott Pilgrim donde se combina magistralmente musica y videojuegos. Justo cuando va a dar comienzo la presentación de Noize al grito de "¡Listos para Rockear!" aparecen Kyoko y Misako para detenerlo todo.

Nuestras protagonistas irrumpen en la tarima para exigirle a Noize que hizo con sus novios, a lo que ella piensa que están locas y las manda a sacar con seguridad! Pero entonces Kyoko la reconoce, Noize es Nozomi a quien conoció en la secundaria cuando se mudó de Bunsonville. Kyoko fue su mejor amiga cuando recién llegó a la secundaria de Nekketsu y no conocía a nadie, pero se separaron cuando Kyoko fue descubierta robando balones de basket ball. Aun así Noize no le perdona que la haya abandonado y menos que la esté avergonzando en público. Así que esto solo se resolverá de una sola manera: Duelo musical!

Esta batalla es tan intensa como épica! Primeramente Noize comienza a tocar su guitarra lanzando secuencia de botones que tendremos que evadir saltando, caer en una secuencia seguida significa comerse un daño combinado que quita mucha salud. Al terminar Noize se lanza contra ti en un ataque de área que si bien no es insta kill, tendremos que evadir porque hace mucho daño, solo después podremos atacarla, se defenderá con su guitarra y lanzándote sus fans que se lanzarán contra ti mientras Noize te lanza su guitarra.

Se puede decir que Noize tiene 3 fases que son cada vez que se baja del escenario para pelear contigo, cada vez que lo hace y su barra de vida disminuye, la intensidad del concierto y la secuencia de botones que debes esquivar aumenta de forma salvaje y por supuesto al llegar al último tercio de vida entra en modo Frenesí, sus ataques son más rápidos, lanza misiles y la cantidad de fans se incrementa, haciendo extremadamente desafiante la batalla, pero combinando los ataques simples y terminarlos con un especial son suficiente para hacerla morder el polvo.

Cuando finalmente logramos derrotarla, nos dice lo mismo que todos los pobres diablos que tuvieron la desgracia de toparse con estas chicas, no saben absolutamente nada. De hecho les pregunta, que si de verdad son sus novios ¿no deberían saber ellas donde están? A lo que responden que no saben y que sospechan que están secuestrados. Entonces Noize les comenta que si están secuestrados entonces deben estar en manos del imperio delictivo dirigido por Sabuko en la Torre Sanwakai, por lo que tendremos que ponernos en marcha para finalmente rescatar a Kunio y Ricky.

Noize
Bien amigos, terminamos así el 5to episodio de esta divertida aventura. Es interesante como se esta desarrollando esta historia, porque cuando Technōs Japan Corp levantó su franquicia inicialmente con el juego Renegade, su primer éxito y que es previo a la Saga de River City y Double Dragón se preguntaban si la secuela debía seguir siendo de estudiantes de instituto cuando tendrían que luchar con gángsters, eso llevó a la creación de Double Dragon dejar a la saga Kunio reducida a peleas contra punks y otros estudiantes de instituto. River City Girls toma el concepto inicial de chicas de instituto teniendo que enfrentarlos a todos, así que supongo que el próximo nivel irá en esa dirección. En el próximo capitulo veremos el nivel de desafío que nos espera, por lo pronto solo me queda desearles salud y buen destino.

Abobo looks familiar to me XD.
I love how the colors look, the graphics, the battle theme with Noize, you can tell how much love they put into the game. This series doesn't disappoint me, worthy of Double Dragon.
