1881 Morgan Silver Dollar from San Francisco / Re-blog lottery

I have a bit of a weakness when in comes to Morgan silver dollars. When I find one I like I usually end up buying it even if it's a duplicate in my collection if the price is right. Those who have followed me for some time and especially those from #silvergoldstackers already know that all too well. That's exactly what happened to me a few day ago.

A fellow I know called me up saying he had some coins he wanted to sell. I have bought from him before and has an amazing collection, so I headed to his home excited to get a look at some of his treasures. He is getting older and so I think he's starting to size down his collection.

When I arrived he showed off quite a few really cool coins, most if which were way outside my budget. But I did pick up a couple Morgan dollars from him at a fair price. Here is one I picked up, it's a fairly nice graded coin by NGC. Have a look:

Diameter: 38.1 mm

Weight: 26.73 grams

Composition: 90% silver/ 10% copper

Edge: Reeded

Minted: 12,760,000

It's a very nice coin, but was hard to photograph because it's plastic enclosure. I love that it was made in San Francisco (in the old west), I like coins made in the west in the 1880's during the times of the wild west. Some interesting highlights from the year 1881 in the old west. On October 26th the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place in Tombstone, Arizona. In New Mexico Billy the Kid escaped jail by killing two deputies only to be shot by Pat Garrett 3 months later (although there is some evidence that he may have shot the wrong man.) Also on April 14th in El Paso, Texas there was the Four Dead in Five Seconds Gunfight. Plenty of bad guys were out there!
