Hi, it's been over a week since I arrived in Izmir and I'm still traveling around. I have to say that I really admire this city. I am especially impressed by its history and the fact that there are so many places to visit and see. I will share with you the places we visited in a day with my brother last week.

If you come to Izmir, you cannot return without seeing the clock tower in Konak. The clock tower is like a symbol of the city. Everyone who comes here has a photo of it. My brother and I went there in the afternoon, the weather was beautiful and there were lots of people. The fact that this place is close to the beach might be the reason why many people come here.

I did what I had to do and took a photo here. My brother is not very good at taking photos, but I think he did a good job with the pigeons in the background and the angle. On top of that he didn't have much time as there were people everywhere trying to take photos.

Children love to play with pigeons. They never let them eat the food on the ground. They always run after them. This was actually a big advantage for me. I told my brother to take a photo of me when the pigeons were flying, but unfortunately the children could not make the pigeons fly at that moment. I picked up my phone and waited for a while for the kids to run. Guess what, just when I gave up and put my phone in my pocket, the pigeons started flying but I couldn't take a photo. I won't lie, it felt bad XD

Later, when my brother and I were looking at the map, we saw that there was a mask museum nearby and we decided to go there. It was in an alley, and it took us a while to find it because I'm used to seeing the pretentious buildings of museums, but this was like an ordinary two-story apartment. So I couldn't take pictures of the outside of the building, but I took some nice pictures from the inside. Which country do you think these masks belong to? I don't know because there was no information sign, but I think they might be very scary when I see them at night, even though they don't look very scary now.

These masks look like tribal masks of Africans. The big one in the middle is definitely the mask of the tribal leader. I wonder when they were made. I don't think they were as difficult to make as the sculptures, but considering the striking colors and the fact that they were carved, I am sure a lot of effort was put into them.

These masks look to me like they were used in rituals. I don't know why, but they have that kind of aura. I don't know if this tongue out one suits the masks that have a very serious weight haha. What do you think about this?

My brother took a photo in front of these masks and sent it to his date and said, "How many of these masks do you have? I want to see your real face." XD I think it's a good joke, I hope his date doesn't get too angry. The one on the bottom right is a Masai mask and the one on the left is a Sulawesi skull. I looked online to see if these are special things, but I didn't find much.

3 gigantic masks. These are probably the kind of masks that are tied to poles. They are too big for a human head. And the engravings on them are enormous. The first one looks like it has a lizard on it. And the middle mask looks really angry.

And the name of this sculpture is melting. It's really a statue and I don't know what it's doing here. I didn't think too much about it and forgot to ask the attendant :P Sorry for the vertical shot but I can't fit it horizontally on the camera.

Here is an article about the history of masks. I could only take a photo like this because of the melting statue right in front of it. Did you know that the history of masks goes back 30 thousand years? The possible origin of this word is mascus or masca, which means ghost in Latin.

Unfortunately, this is the last photo I could share from this museum. Normally I was going to visit the upper floor of the museum but they told us that it was under restoration during our visit. What a pity! In this museum you can see many kinds of masks and you can get detailed information about the history of masks. So I recommend you to visit it. Will I come here again, we will see. Selam, İzmir'e geleli 1 haftayı geçti ve dolaşmaya devam ediyorum. Bu şehre gerçekten hayran olduğumu söylemeliyim. Özellikle tarihi ve gezip görecek çok fazla yer olması beni çok etkiliyor. Sizlerle geçen hafta kardeşimle geçirdiğimiz bir günde dolaştığımız yerleri paylaşacağım.

İzmir'e geliyorsanız Konak'taki saat kulesini görmeden dönemezsiniz. Saat kulesi kentin simgesi gibi bir şey. Gelen herkesin burada mutlaka bir fotoğrafı vardır. Biz de kardeşimle öğleden sonra oraya uğradık, hava çok güzeldi ve bir sürü insan vardı. Buranın sahile yakın olması birçok insanın buraya gelmesinin sebebi olabilir.

Ben de yapmam gerekeni yaptım ve burada bir fotoğraf çektim. Kardeşim fotoğraf çekmek konusunda pek başarılı sayılmaz ama arkadaki güvercinlerle ve açıyla iyi iş çıkardığını düşünüyorum. Üstüne üstlük her yerde fotoğraf çekmeye çalışan insanlar olduğu için çok fazla zamanı yoktu.

Çocuklar güvercinlerle oynamaya bayılıyor. Onların yerdeki yemleri yemesine asla izin vermiyorlar. Hep peşlerinde koşuyorlar. Bu aslında benim için büyük bir avantajdı. Kardeşime güvercinler tam uçtuğunda bir fotoğrafımı çekmesini söyledim ama maalesef çocuklar güvercinleri o anda uçuramadı. Telefonumu elime aldım ve bir süre çocukların koşması için bekledim. Tahmin edin ne oldu, tam vazgeçip telefonumu cebime koyduğumda güvercinler uçmaya başladı ama fotoğrafını çekemedim. Yalan söylemeyeceğim, kötü hissettirdi XD

Daha sonra kardeşimle haritayı incelerken yakınlarda bir maske müzesi olduğunu gördük ve oraya gitmeye karar verdik. Ara sokak gibi bir yerdeydi, bulmamız da biraz uzun sürdü çünkü genelde müzelerin gösterişli binasını görmeye alışkınım ama bu iki katlı sıradan bir daire gibiydi. Bu yüzden binanın dışını çekemedim. Ama içeriden güzel fotoğraflar çektim. Sizce bu maskeler hangi ülkeye ait? Ben bilmiyorum çünkü bir bilgi levhası yoktu ne kadar şu an çok korkutucu görünmeseler de bir gece karşıma çıktıklarında çok korkutucu olabileceklerini düşünüyorum.

Bu maskeler Afrikalıların kabile maskelerine benziyor. Ortadaki büyük olan kesinlikle kabile liderinin maskesi. Ne zaman yapıldıklarını çok merak ediyorum. Heykeller kadar zor yapıldığını düşünmüyorum ama çarpıcı renkleri ve bunların da oyularak yapıldığını düşündüğümüzde gerçekten büyük emek verildiğine eminim.

Bu maskeler ise bana ayinlerde kullanılıyormuş gibi geldi. Neden öyle bilmiyorum ama o tarz bir havaya sahipler. Çok ciddi ağırlığı olan maskelerin yanına bu dili dışarıdaki olan yakışmış mı bilmiyorum haha. Siz bu konuda ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Kardeşim bu maskelerin önünde fotoğraf çekildi ve fotoğrafı flörtüne gönderip "Bu maskelerden sende kaç tane var? Gerçek yüzünü görmek istiyorum." diyeceğini söyledi XD Bence güzel bir şaka, umarım flörtü bu duruma çok sinirlenmez. Sağ altta gördüğünüz bir Masai maskesi ve soldaki de Sulawesi kafatası. İnternetten bunların özel şeyler olup olmadığını araştırdım ama pek bir şey bulduğum söylenemez.

3 devasa maske. Bunlar muhtemelen direklere bağlanan cinsten maskeler. Bir insanın kafası için çok büyükler. Üzerindeki işlemeler ise muazzam. İlkinin üzerinde bir kertenkele varmış gibi görünüyor. Ayrıca ortadaki maske gerçekten sinirlenmiş gibi bakıyor.

Bu heykelin adı da erime. O gerçekten bir heykel ve burada ne işi var bilmiyorum. Üzerine çok düşünmedim ve görevliye sormayı unuttum :P Dikey çekim için üzgünüm ama yatay olarak bunu kameraya sığdıramam.

Burada da maskelerin tarihinden bahseden bir yazı var. Tam önündeki erime heykeli yüzünden ancak böyle bir fotoğraf çekebildim. Maskelerin tarihinin 30 bin yıl öncesine dayandığını biliyor muydunuz? Bu kelimenin olası kökeni de Latincede hayalet anlamına gelen mascus yada masca sözcüğü.

Maalesef bu müzeden paylaşabildiğim son fotoğraf bu. Normalde müzenin üst katını da gezecektim ama oranın ziyaretimiz esnasında restorasyon altında olduğunu söylediler. Ne yazık!
