Old Silver Coins

Before 1965, everyday U.S.coins weren’t the lightweight, modern things we toss into tip jars today. Nope... dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins were made of 90% silver and 10% copper. Real silver. The kind of silver that stackers love to hoard and admire (and talk about way too much). Then came 1965, when the Mint switched from silver to a copper‑nickel clad.

That’s why Constitutional silver has such a loyal fan club. Some people call it “junk silver,” but there’s nothing junky about silver that’s survived decades of pockets, purses, and vending machines. These coins have stories. They’ve lived a life

And now they’re one of the most affordable ways to get real silver. Compared to shiny new Silver American Eagles or freshly minted silver rounds, Constitutional silver is budget‑friendly. You’re not paying for fancy packaging or collector hype. You’re paying for silver content — period. That’s why stackers love it.

If you’re new to the silver game, this is one of the easiest places to start. You can ease into it, add a little at a time, and still feel like you’re building a real stack.

And for the veterans of the stacking world, it’s a smart way to add weight to the stack without chasing pricey, premium‑heavy pieces.

There’s something satisfying about holding a piece of American history that still carries real value today. It’s silver with character. Silver that’s been around the block.

Still love searching change for the pre-65 stuff. Rarely find anything, but have found a few quarters and dimes over the years.

When prices were cheap, the quality was also good and there were beautiful coins. Now that prices have increased, adulterated items are being produced, which does not result in a very beautiful design.

Adulterated, meaning fake? Yeah, China has stepped up its operations. Be careful of fake products. Buy from reputable dealers only!!!
Thanks, @djbravo .

Usually under spot lately! That will not last long I think. I think the bulk of my stack is Canadian Silver dollars. I almost always bring US constitutional home when I visit.

I am buying a lot of Constitutional silver lately, and I really have not stopped buying, but more so last month.

Your stories about growing up with Constitutional silver are truly inspiring. They motivate me to pick some up every month, especially knowing they’re no longer minted. And like you always said @silvertop, if those coins could talk, imagine the stories they’d tell.

The nice thing is that I could go to the bank back then as a kid and exchange paper Fiat for silver.......no extra cost!!
I wish I could do that now Lol!!!😇

With Refiners not buying at the moment, many Dealers are flush with Constitutional silver coins and are dangerously exposed to the volatile price swings. The result, Constitutional is priced well under spot price. I haven't had the energy to check out my favorite Dealer lately, I'm overdue in supporting his business.

Always, with Love 🤗🌺❤️

Yeah, normally, refiners purchase large amounts of Constitutional silver to melt down and turn into new products. When they stop buying, that major source of demand disappears. With lots of supply and less demand, dealers lower their prices...even below the current silver spot price, to move inventory and protect themselves from volatility. Are you taking advantage of this, sis?

I love constitutional silver and it's a thrill when I find one in everyday change! People don't know what they have, and often, if it's in the mainstream money drawer at a store, chances are good that it will be given out, hopefully to us stackers who know what it is!

Thanks for sharing sis! Much love to you; hugs and kisses!🤗😘😍❤️🌹 !LADY !LUV !BBH !PIMP
