2026 Australia Silver Lunar Year of the Horse
Last year, I got this silver coin on a pre-sale... my first 2026 silver coin.
I paid $64.91 for the Year of the Horse. I figured that pre-sale prices were discounted, so I went ahead and ordered the coin because I was completing Lunar Series III. In November 2025, I felt it was pricey.
But look at its price today... $107.08! I don't know if I am willing to pay for the Lunar Year of the Horse at today's prices!
2026 Australia 1 oz Silver Lunar Horse BU (Series III)
The seventh release in the Perth Mint's Australian Lunar Series III. The design on the back changes each year to match the Chinese lunar calendar. The 2026 silver coin honors the Year of the Horse. People born in 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, and 2026 and every 12th year before are born the Lunar Year of the Horse.
Coin Highlights:
Contains 1 oz of .9999 fine silver.
Comes in a protective plastic capsule. Multiples of 20 typically come in sealed rolls.
These coins are sold out at the mint!
Limited mintage cap of 300,000 coins.
Obverse: The Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the weight and fineness, and the monetary denomination.
Reverse: Portrays a majestic mare along with her young foal, both depicted with elegant manes in a striking galloping stance. The background includes towering mountains and the lush serenity of grasslands. Also included in the design is the Chinese character for "horse," the inscription "HORSE 2026" and The Perth Mint's "P" mint mark.

Both the Perth Lunar Series I and Series II were extremely popular. So I waited for Series III to begin, and I started collecting Series III.
The Series III started in 2020.

A marvelous design for 2026.
My extended clan invited me to a sumptuous Chines dinner celebrating the New Year next month. There are dishes I have to avoid according to my dietitian of course. The restaurant hasn't been named yet but I get the feeling the bill will be a bit pricey but the company will be good.

I used to have horsed, in another lifetime, it seems. I loved them; it broke my heart when the first two passed. The third, I had to leave behind when we move. It broke both mine and Radar's heart. There's a story there.....
