I randomly picked the 2025 The Siren from my box of silver to show you last week, not realizing that I had not yet presented the previous year-2024 first release of the Mythical Creatures series. So here it is!
2024 Niue Silver Mystical Creatures: The Sea Serpent
A sea serpent is a mythical creature that traditionally looks like a gigantic snake and is believed to dwell in the deep seas, as known throughout the ancient world.
Coin Highlights:
Contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
Mintage of 5,000 coins.
Multiples of 20 come in heat sealed rolls. All other coins will be in protective capsules.
Obverse: Features the Niue coat of arms inside a wheel of a boat surrounded by images of other mythical creatures.
Reverse: Depicts a sea serpent emerging from a body of water.
Sovereign coin backed by the Niue government.

It is a coincidence that Niue picked The Sea Serpent as the first release of this series of Mystical Creatures. The year 2024 is the Lunar year of the fire-breathing dragon, while this mythical being is also a dragon-like creature!

In the Old Testament there are several allusions to a primordial combat between God and a monstrous adversary variously named Leviathan or Rahab. Although the references to Leviathan usually indicate a dragon-like creature, the name has also been used to denote a sea monster in general (see dragon). Analogies to this combat are found throughout the ancient Middle East.
What next... a unicorn? A phoenix? Or fairies? What about a giant, or dwarves? A troll, perhaps?
I wish it were one of these creatures. However, I bet it will be one of the commonly preferred by others—the scary creatures. W h y ?

Sirens are half-human, half-bird creatures that lure sailors to their death with their sweet songs. Mermaids are half-human, half-fish creatures that are known for their beauty and are largely regarded as friends to humans. So whoever designed the 2025 The Siren coin is confused, !LOL.
