The 2024 1 oz Una and the Lion Silver Bar
is a fresh take on the classic 1839 design.

2024Una&Lion3.JPG

This release features

1 Troy ounce of .999 fine silver and depicts Una with the lion on the obverse. The reverse side has a fancy pattern with the phrase "Dirigit Deus Gressus Meos," which means "May God Direct My Steps".

2024Una&Lion4.JPG

It's a cool collectible

with only 21,839 bars made, so it's pretty special for collectors and stackers alike.

The original 1839

"Una and the Lion" design is a renowned piece of numismatic art. It was created by William Wyon, Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint, and was featured on a limited series of gold coins during the reign of Queen Victoria.

The design portrays Queen Victoria as Una, a character from Edmund Spenser's epic poem "The Faerie Queene." In this allegorical image, Una is leading a lion, symbolizing strength and guidance. The reverse of the coin showcases a stunning crowned shield of arms.

This coin is particularly cherished for its artistic beauty, historical significance, and the incredible craftsmanship of Wyon. The "Una and the Lion" motif has inspired numerous reinterpretations in the world of precious metals, including the latest 2024 silver bar you mentioned. Collectors admire these pieces not just for their bullion value, but for the rich history and symbolism they represent. 🦁

It's great to hear you enjoyed it! Hugging a lion might be a bit too adventurous in reality, but there's something magical about imagining it, isn't it, sis? What is something as lovely as the lion hug? 😊
How about imagining a playful afternoon with a pod of dolphins? Picture yourself swimming in the crystal-clear ocean, surrounded by these intelligent and curious creatures. They dart around you, leaping out of the water and performing acrobatic flips, while their cheerful clicks and whistles fill the air. You can feel their smooth skin as they nudge you playfully, inviting you to join in their aquatic games.🐬😊
!LOL
Much !LUV always, sis🤗😘😍

Have you done dolphin swimming, sis? I can't swim, so it wouldn't happen for me, but I could imagine it! Lovely!🤗❤️🌹 !HOPE

Very unique silver bar @silversaver888!👍😊
The original gold coin, I have never seen this before …….
Is it a variation of a gold sovereign?

The 1839 5 pound gold coin, also known as the "Una and the Lion" coin, is not a variation of a gold sovereign. While both coins are British gold coins from the 19th century, they have distinct differences.

The 1839 5 pound coin was designed by William Wyon to commemorate the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign. It features a depiction of Queen Victoria as the character Una from Edmund Spenser's poem "The Faerie Queene," walking alongside a lion. The coin was primarily made as a proof coin for collectors and was not intended for circulation.

On the other hand, the gold sovereign is a circulating coin that was first issued in 1817 and features a different design, typically depicting Saint George slaying the dragon.

So, @silvertop... one’s a showstopper for display, and the other was the go-to for buying a loaf of bread. 😊

Such a cool bar and interesting origin on the design. I will have to read up more on that poem I guess. My knowledge of the arts is limited.

Those are all really cool. Apparently this is a whole theme huh? I have never heard of it. Is it from mythology or something like that? I will have to Google it.

Yes, "Una and the Lion" is actually part of Edmund Spenser's epic poem, "The Faerie Queene". Una is a central character in the first book of the poem, which is an allegorical work celebrating the virtues of the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I.
Una represents Truth and is often depicted with a lion, symbolizing courage. Her story involves her quest to find the Redcrosse Knight (St. George) to help defeat a dragon that has been terrorizing her kingdom. Along the way, she tames a lion who becomes her loyal companion.
It's a fascinating blend of chivalric romance, mythology, and allegory.

What a beautiful bar! Such great details in the design, I really like that one. I've always wanted one of the 1839 gold coin, but they are a little out of my budget...
