1961 Washington Silver Quarters

U.S. Constitutional Silver are U.S. coins minted before 1965 in the form of dimes, quarters, halves, and dollars.

The term "U.S. Constitutional Silver" refers to these coins:

  1. Mercury dimes
  2. Pre-1965 90% silver Roosevelt dimes
  3. Standing Liberty quarters
  4. Pre-1965 90% silver Washington quarters
  5. Walking Liberty half dollars
  6. Franklin half dollars
  7. 1964 90% silver Kennedy half dollars
  8. Morgan dollars
  9. Peace dollars

Following the constitutional mandate, these coins were minted containing 90% silver. The mandate ended in 1965.

Minted with 90% silver and 10% copper, a pre-1965 U.S. quarter coin contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces (or about 5.625 grams) of silver.

Below is a portion of the value of silver quarters by year.

I've been making small Ebay purchases. And you guessed right, I bought U.S. Constitutional coins, quarters in particular.

1961 Washington Quarters, proof

Whenever I can (that is, if I remember to do it), I purchase them, along with my regular silver purchases. Since I have enough of the circulated ones, I try to buy brilliant uncirculated versions of the coins.

I got these for an average of $10.00 a piece. It is not exactly bargain. Nothing is cheap nowadays. Especially if they are 64 years old coins and uncirculated.

Now, to those naysayers who say that they can't stack silver because it is expensive... I think they were never meant to be stackers of gold and silver. The truth is, not everyone will get it. Not everyone will be a gold and/or silver stacker. Not everyone understands preserving the value of work by exchanging their hard-earned fiat currency for real money.

Me? I shall continue to preserve my wealth by stacking gold and silver, an ounce at a time, targeting 15% of the total portfolio in precious metals.

Stacking is fun and wealth-building. You start with one silver coin, and through the years, it accumulates, @crstypatata!
Thank you, and have a wonderful day, sis 😍

Most people tend to forget that Pennies and Nickels were used to make change for our Constitutional Silver… Twenty Nickels were equal to 1 Silver Dollar… By the way… Our Silver Coins will do 10 Times better than our Clad Coins…

That is good to hear, @pocketechange ! I have silver nickels as well!
The composition of nickels changed from 1942 to 1945, when silver was added to their metal content; the four-year period has been referred to as the silver nickel era. Specifically, it consisted of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese.

35% Silver Nickels: 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945

The thing I like most about U.S. Constitutional coins is that they ARE real money, and in fractional form. I buy the silver half dollars, quarters, and dimes for their fractional nature, @chinito.

Do you stack gold also? I thought you only stack silver metals!

Those Washington silver Quarters look pretty shiny and well-maintained!

Yes, I stack gold. In fact, the greater portion of my precious metal is gold.
Those Washington Quarters are proof specimens; that is why they are unusually shiny. They are also uncirculated, thus well-maintained, @hafiz34 .

It’s always a good choice to keep some of your stack in constitutional Silver @silversaver888 !👍😊
Liz was trying to explain silver‘s value to a coworker.
A local gold silver shop tried to convince this lady to buy at least a silver dime to get started. She could not wrap her mind around why she would pay so much for a dime.😇

Many people do not understand the value of U.S. Constitutional silver. It has value beyond melt price. But I am barking at the wrong tree, @silvertop!

Very true @silversaver888 !👍😊
Liz and I also have a friend that we’ve known for years. We convinced her to actually buy one silver dime, hoping she would buy once a month……..
She only bought one dime…. one time… that was back in 2008!
Then she stopped…..🙄

Regardless of where my clad quarters were minted, I've been keeping almost all of my Washington Quarters. I don't have a specific reason as to why I'm doing it, but I just am. lol

I'll give you good reasons why you should continue keeping Washington quarters, silver or not! Aside from the fact that you are actually saving money, you might discover errors and other valuable quarter coins. You can complete sets, such as State Quarters, National Parks Quarters, or Mint-mark series. Some coins may become valuable over time. And it great educational tool too!
Keep on saving those Washington quarters, @esecholo!

The older silver constitutional money is so much nicer than the stuff they pass off nowadays. I remember when I was a kid and we would go visit my aunt and uncle, Uncle Earl would hide quarters, half dollars and silver dollars in the davenport. My brother and I knew to always look under the cushions for them, and we amassed a small piggy bank of those coins. Back then, no one thought them special-they were just money. Eventually, my mom and dad took that money and used it for something.

If only I had all of those coins now! Thanks for sharing sis! Much love to ya!😘🤗😍❤️ !LADY !LUV !HBIT !PIMP

Yes, indeed, sis! Back then, they were real money, which they are until now and for always. They are inflation-resistant and retain their purchasing power.
I am sure you have now saved up more than sufficient quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars that surpass what you amassed in that small piggy bank, sis !LOL

Proof-like or it has seen better days, Constitutional or confederation silver is the ideal fractional form of emergency commerce money or barter in the event of a disorderly financial upheaval. Even should the transition is orderly, the silver coins will retain it's fundamental buying power.
And it wouldn't hurt to keep the shinier coins aside just to enjoy.

Always, with !LUV 🤗🌺❤️

Not only that, sis. Each coin is a piece of American history, minted during the era of sound money. U.S. Constitutional silver is inflation-resistant, and as you already said, it retains its purchasing power. And as you know, gold coins, American Silver Eagles, and U.S. Constitutional silver are what I am stacking, sis.
!LUV always 🤗🌺❤️
