1941 & 1942 Indonesia Silver 1/4 and 1/10 Gulden coins

@ekavieka is an Indonesian Hiver who would sometimes share his coins with the #silvergoldstacker community and regularly follows my blog, among others.

These are the Indonesian silver coins I mentioned to him sometime in the past. Both of these coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1937 to 1945. Both were demonetized in January 1, 1952.

Gulden? Yes, that was the currency of the Netherlands. The Dutch came to Indonesia in the 1600s, chasing spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. They started with trading posts run by the Dutch East India Company, or VOC. But the VOC wasn't just a company. It had special powers from the Dutch government- like making treaties and waging war. Basically, it acted like a mini-government and slowly took control of parts of Indonesia. When the VOC collapsed in 1799, the Dutch government took over directly in the 1700s and ruled until Indonesia declared independence in 1945 after World War II.

Interesting that they use the Gulden for their coinage denomination @silversaver888😇
I did not know that the Dutch government ruled over Indonesia originally! 🙄

349 years is a long time that the Dutch occupied Indonesia. Indonesia's history under the Dutch is mind-boggling. I don't know if it is real or not, but everything I read about their history seems to be a history of .... Better read it yourself, @silvertop🙄

Thank you for showing the coin from my country. Well I mean from my place, as it is belong to the Dutch Goverment back then.
It is very interesting, that the coin is produce a few years before Japanese took over Indonesia, and before our independence.

Something I regret is that I think I have seen this Gulden coin when I was a kid, that was belong to my elders, not litereally my elder, but still part of my bigger family members, and we used it as toys in the past, since it has no value at all during the 90's when I was a kid. But now it is so hard to find, and I am so happy that yiu have those coin, holding part of my country's history. :)

It is still your country, even though it was controlled by someone else, @ekavieka. I watched a video on why you never learned Dutch.

Yes, hindsight, the coins should have been kept! They are all silver!
Thank you, @ekavieka !

And for those crazier than me that collect fiat currency, here's a rare treat. This old 1954 1 Colonial Gulden of the former Dutch East Indies.
I borrowed this from @punkysdad
