1940 Canada George VI Silver 50 Cents

George VI was the monarch of the United Kingdom from 1936 to 1952. He was the father of and succeeded by Elizabeth II.

George was a figure of strength and fortitude for the British people during World War II.

George provided a model of determination in his well-known struggle to overcome the severe stammer that had afflicted him since childhood.

Have you seen the motion picture The King’s Speech (2010), George VI live radio address on September 3, 1939, as Britain entered World War II?

His greatest achievements came during the Second World War, when he remained for most of the time at Buckingham Palace (the Palace was bombed nine times during the war). He and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, visited severely bombed areas in the East End of London and elsewhere in the country, gained him great popularity. Source

George VI was the first British monarch to enter the United States when we visited in 1939.

I have a few George VI coins: one from Great Britain, three from Canada (2 are gifts), and two from South Africa I hope to add to it.

Although the 1940 is the most detailed @silversaver888 , the find the 1951 South African the most interesting!😊
Probably because it reminds me of the Reverse on the Gold Krugerrand!😇😊

My personal favorites are the British 5 Shillings George VI and the 1951 South Africa 5 Shillings for the same reason you have, @silvertop!

When I got my Father's coin collection I found that most of the silver coins were the 50 cents variety. I still don't know why they made up the majority of the Canadian coins I got at the time. I have every year coin except for the rare 1948 and 1947 Maple leaf mark. One day some coin club member may enlighten me.

Always, with !LUV 🤗🌺❤️

The details of the coin are incredible, as is the story behind it, but what made me most curious in the post was the film The King's Speech (2010). I'm not going to watch it today, as I have a trip to the beach planned.

A lovely piece of history in a nice package! I think it's admirable to try to overcome something like his stutter. I know, take for example, Mel Tillis; his stutter was crippling, but by singing, he didn't stutter.

A lovely coin sis! Thanks for sharing and have a blessed Sunday! Much !LUV to you!🤗😘😍❤️🌹 !LADY !PIMP !HBIT

It is a great fortune to be able to have such coins to collect, I would like to have some similar to these as they look extravagant and fabulous.
