1922 Brazil Silver 2000 Réis Independence Centennial
I am not sure how it happens, but on several occasions, @kerrislravenhill and I pick the same old coin! It is kind of a sibling radar that amazes me... a total twin vibe!
As I shared my 1857 Brazil Silver 1000 Réis, she showed a couple of coins from Brazil. To my surprise, she had this coin👇!
1922 Brazil Silver 2000 Réis Independence Centennial
This coin was minted by the Casa da Moeda do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to commemorate the 100 years of Brazil's independence.
The obverse of the coin features the two images with captions in Latin: "Acclamation of Independence D. Pedro I", "President of the Republic Epitácio Pessôa"
The reverse of the coin (and the reason I bought this coin) shows the coat of arms of the Empire of Brazil and the new coat of arms of the Republic of Brazil, the double dates 1822 and 1922, and the denomination of 2 MIL REIS.

A small coin (4mm smaller than the US half dollar coin, which is 30mm), but a powerful piece of history.
It captures the turning point of Brazil's identity. Brazil's journey from imperial rule to democratic aspirations. And it is etched in silver!

Thank you so much for the educational youtube video, I was a little bit shocked to learn that it was first an empire when it declare its independence, because all i know that they colonialized by Portugesse. But it has more interesting story than I expected. I wonder what would happen if Emperor Pedro could keep up his empire. :)

That is an awesome coin! I really don't have enough Brazilian silver. I love the age and the story behind the coin. I didn't realize that Brazil had a king at one point until one of our members from Brazil told me the history. What a cool coin @silversaver888 !
