12 Days of Christmas, Day 2 ; Davy Jones Locker - Privateer Series Silver Round

avatar
(Edited)

The annual traditional #silvergoldstackers Christmas Wish list challenge is in progress! Start anytime, preferably just Before this Christmas, novice or veteran Stacker, 2 to 24+ of the shiny treasures that occupy most of your waking thoughts or subconscious desires, and perhaps Santa might answer.

“Black birds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven.

A Stacking embarrassment on my part, as I was preparing to put together a posting plan for this series I have come to realize that this particular silver round is missing. I remember getting this but perhaps not.

Before I slap the picture of this round on the side of a milk carton I should put this out there for a secret Santa to read. Otherwise, I may have to rely on hazardous waters of eBay. I recall bidding unsuccessfully on this round as I was against buyers that were willing to spend far much more than I was able to endure at the time, plus shipping.

Shipping is become another hazard nowadays with items never reaching their destination.

I’ll have to save the deep dive behind the tall tales swirling about Davy Jones Locker when I acquire this iconic pirate silver, and triumphantly finish this set once and for all.

However, I followed an interesting rabbit trail in a swift ‘Duck duck go’ reconnoiter of the Davy Jones name. Other than the Disney Octo face rendition of Captain Jones we’re most familiar with, there is one other, of a young musician Davy Jones of a 1960s band called The Monkees.
Charming.

Hardly, the visage of a fearsome Seafaring Captain and his cutthroat crew. The Monkees are originally a television sitcom before gaining popularity as a recording and touring band.
No locker mentioned.

Dare I venture further? 😬

Going by my instincts I figured there may be a pirate life related episode to redeem my slighted honor of this most embarrassing post. Combing through the Monkees episode list I found what I may be looking for!
It is Season 2, Episode 12 ‘Hitting the High Seas’ The Monkees vs. Pirates. But alas my buccaneer friends, YouTube has disappointed me again having no complete episode, save for the song sequence.

Elemetal mint's Davy Jones Locker 2 oz. Silver round, a more affordable wish list option on my stacking journey for the Santa who may be more budget minded than in previous years. To which I will be humbly grateful.😁

May the trade winds be in your favor this Christmas my friends! 🎄

These very high relief pirate silver round are Cool!
As a silver stacking 'Pirate' missing out on completing this the 2015 - 2017 Elemetal Privateer Set was not cool. That's why am not Captain of my own ship but as the ship's Master role.
Welcome aboard @rikoy

The Monkees were awesome! Now that is one seriously nice silver round, I love the shark, bones and the ship. Very cool choice!

Too bad Davy Jones died of a heart attack a few years back, I think there's only one of The Monkees left now.

Like the preceding rounds of this series a very visually stunning round done in high relief. @thebighigg

According to monkees.com, the drummer of the band, Mickey Dolenz is the last surviving member.

The Monkees are well before my time, a different style and era. Different dress and hair styles 😄
There is a Christmas episode on their list. Season 2, Episode 15 'The Christmas show.'

That's a very cool round!

It amazes me to see how people go nuts bidding on some items and then I check the shipping costs and I'm in shock reading 45 euros is added to the price they pay. Oof, I'm now personally trying to find auctions only in Spain so I can only expect 10-15 euros tops more or less in shipping fees.

I guess sometimes people just go nuts bidding, especially when they start at 1 euro, I read somewhere that some items go beyond their value price if there's no start bid.

Good luck on the Davey Jones round hunt! May the odds be in your favour!

This is why I prefer my local coin shop, the dealer I get to know, I don't feel rushed, I learn a few things about the products and the current market and now gives me an overall special discount. He may not always have what I want but I always enjoy the experience.

Often the bidding gets very fierce near the end running the price beyond it's value. I may have better luck finding a vintage Monkees Band silver round. Pirate themed silver is very popular.

Thanks for dropping in @thisismylife ☠️

I get that, I wish I had one too but I only found a very tiny one in the city where we could not park in the near area due to it being in a very crowded street. Maybe I will find one in a surrounding town in the future making it easier to just walk in and check them in person.

Too bad for you that pirate is such a popular theme, but I'm sure in the future, even if it takes a while, you will get the ones you want!

You hit a very very sore spot for me with this one. I never started the series and I’m mad that I didn’t……

Between your sore spot and my incompetence in missing out on the last piece we share an ignominious common ground. We can only console each other over a beer but I'm fresh out of BEER calls already. How about a pirate hug? 🤗

Don't you hate it when you are missing one (or two, or three) to complete the set? Don't you sometimes FOMO... that is why I watch it when it comes to silver I am collecting (Swans, Emu, Lunars).

Yes Sis, it is. I only need to find one, dent and toned if need be but these are scarce at reasonable premiums above spot and this side of the border. This series is put away until this quest is fulfilled.

Always, with pirate love 🤗🌺❤️☠️

You can't go wrong with pirate-themed silver! 😁

When I started Stacking back before 2014 there were very little pirate themed silver and it took off since. I love the fantasy replicas made out of 999 silver and since my Stack is fairly established I fell more free to acquire more.
My Booty bank often sits on the middle of my coffee table, a treasure hidden in plain sight.

You took me down memory lane with The Monkees, lol! Davy Jones could sing, but I'm in agreement with you; no mention of a locker, lol!

May your Secret Santa succeed in making your Christmas wishes come true! Thanks for sharing @kerrislravenhill and have a lovely day!🤗💜

Their history does list a movie feature in their pop & slapstick style.
I haven't seen it so I don't know if there are any references to pirates there either. !Lol And this started out as a short post.
