500 Rupiah Coin

It has been quite some time since the last time I made a post about coin, this time, I will share another coin that is quite old, I think. And this is also the mark of the new Millennium, yet my country (and the people) still seems to be enjoying its time in the darker part of the civilisation.

What I have today is this 500 Rupiah Coin, which we usually call Coin Melati because of the flower that is printed on the coin. Now I think some of the sellers will still take this coin, and if they don't have the change for this amount, they would likely substitute it with two candies. That is how much it is worth now. But man, it was a very valuable coin back then when I was in my Junior High school. This is the daily allowance that my parent could give me, and often they didn't even have that kind of money, so I just went to school without any money. Such memories. It was hard for me, but I think it is harder for my parents as they are trying to give me the best education I can get, despite their financial condition.

Anyway, back to the coin. On the reverse, you can see the Jasmine flower (Jasminum sambac), the National Flower and Denomination. This coin has suffered some wear and tear, as you can see.

I have the Hive logo in the background. It is from the keychain that is given to me by @macchiata, a nice present from her, from the Menulisid anniversary.

And then here is the observe side of the coin, with the Burung Garuda as my country's Coat of Arms, the mint year, and the Central Bank.

I knew I had a coin. I found this 25 Rp coin left by a customer in a local Coinstar coin sorting machine.

There is a bird on the back with fancy head feathers I haven't identified yet.

is that the coin?
I think I still have a hand of that coin when I was a kid, the bird is one of the bird from Papua, they have so many beautiful birds there and has been use in some of the coin and bank note here in my country.

Yes it is.
These old bank notes are from my cousin's collection, he likes to collect coins and notes with a bird theme.

Very cool coin! I've never seen one before, I do think I have a couple from Indonesia though. I love old coins, they have so much history, and a way to connect to all the people who have held the coin in their hands, pockets, or purses over the years. Awesome post!

Thank you so much my friend, I hope to see some of your collection from my country.
Man I should have collected the old coin that I had seen when I was a kid.
I remember we played the colonial coin when I was a kid as it was useless, then now it is nowhere to be found. hahah
