In the darkness and gloom of the old castle, one museum preserves terrible stories
When I just think about all the beauties, beautiful sculptures and magical pictures people think of when a museum is mentioned... And what kind of museum am I going to write about now 😨
I didn't know there was a #Museum community, until at the beginning of January I saw the posts of three Hive graces: palomap3, livinguktaiwan and mipiano.
I regret that I did not discover this community earlier, because I had several visits to the museums that I presented in my posts.
But it doesn't matter, when there is more material from the museum, I know where the posts are going 🙂
So here is my story🙂
A few years ago, we found ourselves in Prague.
Wandering around the old town and enjoying the spirit of medieval buildings, from Staroměstské náměstí, to the right of the castle with fairy-tale towers Church of the Virgin Mary of Tinska (that may have been the inspiration for Disney's logo), we enter Celetna Street and after 100m, at number 12, next to the beautiful gate to Hrzanska Passage, we see Museum of torture.
Considering that we have already seen the Sex Museum, the Wax Museum, as well as a museum with details of the life of a medieval man, his weapons and torture devices from that period in Golden lane, why not see another, unusual museum, which I don't often have the opportunity to see.
The Museum of Torture and Torture Instruments and Torture Laws, located in the renovated basement of a beautiful building, has a permanent exhibition of torture exhibits on 400 m² with a realistic representation achieved by standing figures, silent sobs and eerie screams.
This is a museum where you will admire (perhaps if you are not terrified) the exhibits and the facial expressions of the resurrected figures shown in the greatest torture, and some will be amazed by the documentation (very old), which describes in detail the technique of each torture, the description of how the device used and for which punishments which of these devices is intended.
I only know one thing. If I had found myself in these chambers 400 or 500 years ago, I would probably have been terrified.
Honestly, it was terrible for me even now, because with the sound effects, in such a dark space, with such realistic characters, you can easily imagine yourself in that dark, medieval period.
It was nice to end the visit to this museum and in the light of day to enjoy the view of beautiful Prague, a city that is as a whole like one big museum...
Thank you for stopping by my post and I hope you enjoyed the photos and the story I shared with you

Be careful, if you are timid, better do not enter this post 😀
You are welcome @duskobgd. Haha now you made us curious!! 😘😱😜
You found it in a timely matter as it has only been around for a few weeks 😃
Oh what a gruesome way of punishment back in those times. I too would be terrified to arrive and await my fate if I ended up in any of these chambers. Just seeing the devices and illustrations would be enough for me not to be in that situation, haha.
Take care, thanks for sharing your experience and hope to see more if you visit other museums.

Good luck in your future work!
I will be happy to share my future visits to museums in this community, no matter what the theme of the exhibits is.
I don't think this would be my cup of tea, I'd be too scared 😦, virtual tour would be ok
It was not my intention to scare the readers 🙂
I hope that you will enjoy it more in the next post of the museum I will visit 🙂
Sending you an Ecency curation vote!
Thanks for suport 🫶
I live in Prague. This museum exploits a strange human trait, a kind of excitement about horrifying realities. People like to be scared. Horror movies are based on the same principle. You can set up a museum like this anywhere there are a lot of rich tourists. It doesn't have to be connected to Prague at all.
I didn't want to associate what I saw in that museum exclusively with Prague 🙂
Such torture procedures were present in all European countries (perhaps in the whole world) in the Middle Ages. Centuries ago, man found various ways to inflict evil, torment and pain on another man. Judging by today's events in certain parts of the world, it seems that we have remained the same, we have only improved a little in the tools with which we kill and torture each other.
There is also a similar museum near me in Belgrade, in the Kalmendan fortress, in the former dungeons, with tools for torturing prisoners. When I get around to it, I'll share, let's compare 🙂
And I promise, the next time I come to Prague, I will make sure to contact you to recommend some interesting locations that are popular among Prague residents.
Great, let me know when it's up to date. Just to point out that my English is very poor.
Violence was many times more common in the Middle Ages than it is today, although it doesn't seem like it because all violence is now publicized.
I can think of two other places in Prague where you can encounter instruments of torture. But of course there are many other things to see.
We'll get along, don't worry,especially if we meet in a pub 🙂
I saw the installation in the Daliborka tower in Zlatá ulička na Hradčany. It's enough for me 🙂
O.K. 😀
