Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Approach to Land 1.75!
Introduction
Hi Praetoria! Welcome to another edition of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge brought to you by The Jedo! Link to the challenge HERE. This time around, we will discuss a very important aspect of the Splinterlands ecosystem. To me, this is the part of the game that fascinates me the most – Land!
With the forthcoming Land 1.75 update, I could not contain my excitement in finally getting the opportunity to harvest new resources in the game namely Wood, Stone, and Ore! It's basically a new game mode! I can’t wait to unravel opportunities in this new, thriving economy and how it will impact general gameplay. I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who has been waiting for this version of Land for a long, long time! Let’s dive right in!
Recent Updates
I recently published two separate articles regarding my approach to Splinterlands Land. You can find them HERE and HERE. Since then, I have increased my land holdings to a total of 252 plots!
I had been sitting on 249 plots for a while. I thought to myself that the 250th plot I will obtain should be something very special like a Legendary Plot, an Occupied Plot, a second Keep, or maybe even a Castle!
Around 7:00 AM on March 11th, as I was doing my daily window shopping (I do this multiple times almost everyday), I noticed someone had listed on the market TWO Common Natural Jungle plots located in the same region as my Keep, albeit in a different tract. To my surprise, these plots were priced just slightly above floor price and came with Building-in-a-Box packages, plus already built Grain Farms!
I did a double take - I couldn't believe these plots were selling this cheap! I quickly topped up my account with some Credits as I did not have any Dark Energy Crystals handy to purchase these plots on the spot. Although these were not some of those fancier, higher rarity plots, I am still pumped I got the opportunity to purchase these.
Plot Count: 251. Milestone reached.

It didn't take long for me to take my wallet out again to purchase another plot in the same Region. Two days later, an affordable Magical Bog showed up on the marketplace. I immediately checked how much common magical plots were going for. This particular plot I was looking at did not cost that much more than the listed floor! Considering this was in the same location as my "main region," I decided I should just go for it. It came with a BIB package, too, and an already built Research Hut. A no-brainer, in my opinion.
Plot Count: 252. LFG!
Anyway... Onto this week's challenge!
Sooo..... What's New in Land 1.75?

How is The Jedo Preparing for Land 1.75?
Good question!
Ever since the early phases of Land, I have been thinking about what I should be doing to prepare for future phases. I read the first iteration of the whitepaper and joined 2 separate "Group Surveys" to claim my first 12 PLOT tokens.
Throughout the succeeding months, I was able to obtain more land plots by purchasing them off the market. I reached out to multiple people and initiated trades and provided win-win scenarios for both parties involved!
I also purchased a lot of Gold Foil monster cards and set aside enough DEC in preparation for deploying/staking them on my land plots.
Optimizing Land Plots
I initially set up two "home bases" - one in Region 50 where I have a Keep (purchased off the market) and one in Region 114 where I had done my second group survey. Using the Spreadsheet that I had been developing and populating for months, I made sure I had enough Grain to feed all my workers regardless of the plots they are on and the resources that they harvest. I prioritized using monsters that have terrain bonuses depending on their Splinters specific to the land type.
Per the Land Whitepaper:
For example, I assigned Maxed GF Legendary units from the Death Splinter to maximize the 10% Bonus Production they would get from Bogs. Water units can also be used if preferred. For the Occupied River shown below, I utilized Earth units aside from the lone Neutral unit from the Beta Set. (No 10% bonus but no penalty either!) Lastly, for one of my Occupied plots, a Swamp, I used a combination of Water and Death Units to fully maximize the benefits of the Terrain Preferences.
I also purchased Runi, Titles, and Totems (some fragments were found from harvesting) to further boost the production on my plots.
Don't forget the rarity of the plots! They also add production boosts!
I eventually pulled out most of my land workers from other regions and brought them home to Region 50 so I could maximize the Taxes collected by my Keep! I made sure that I have enough Grain to feed all my workers in all of my plots in production, including Occupied and Magical plots.
Per the Overview page of my Land Holdings on the Splinterlands website, my workers in Region 50 demand 7,913 Grain/Hr. (All 67 of my Natural Common plots in this region, though worksites are already built on them, are currently uninhabited, just for clarification. Same with almost all of the plots I have in other regions.)
Based on my Spreadsheet calculations, I net a total of 6,279.60 Grain/Hr. This means I am short by at least 400 Grain/Hr. I supplement this deficit by harvesting the collected taxes via my Keep. It only costs 1,000 Grain to collect from the Keep. I do this once a week.
With a 45.8% Tax rate, I am able to negate this deficit and therefore making my Region, at least for now, self-sufficient and sustainable.
Adjustments and Strategies for 1.75
Once the update for 1.75 rolls out, all worksites will be terrain-dependent. Grain Farms built on plots that are not Bogs, Lakes, Plains, or Rivers, will be automatically converted to the respective worksite specific to the natural resource that can be harvested on that plot upon first harvest. Good thing I had already planned ahead! Most of the Grain I am producing now are from actual Grain-producing plots. How's that for coming in prepared?
To make things more interesting, production of the other natural resources will be based on the following rates:
📊 Production Rates Per Production Point Per Hour:
• Grain – 0.02 (unchanged)
• Wood – 0.005
• Stone – 0.002
• Iron – 0.0005Since these production rates are much lower than Grain, Wood, Stone, and Iron will be far more limited in supply, making them a key resource for both landowners and the Splinterlands economy.
What do I do now? Some might say I am lucky since the majority of my plots in this tract can produce Grain. But what about other resources? I would need Wood, Stone, and Ore/Iron to be able to harvest Research and SPS tokens. Heck, there's a rumor, too, that these resources will be needed for conflict wagons when the next set, Conclave Arcana, is released! The same resources will also be used to upgrade and repair worksites in future phases of land!

🔨 But production is just the beginning—Wood, Stone, and Iron will also be required to generate SPS & Research. The consumption rates will match the production rates, meaning that when you harvest SPS or Research:
Every 1 base Production Point spent per hour toward production will consume
0.005 Wood
0.002 Stone
0.0005 Iron
To put this into perspective:
💡 If you have a 5,000 Production Point Research plot, you'll need an equal amount of Wood, Stone, and Iron production to match it (along with enough Grain) to be fully self-sufficient.
Based on my records, my total BASE PP for Magical Plots with Research Huts, and Occupied and Natural Plots with Shard Mines, is currently 638,300 PP. Basically, I would need that same amount of PP assigned for harvesting each of the other natural resources:
- 638,300 Total PP that produces Wood
- 638,300 Total PP that produces Stone
- 638,300 Total PP that produces Iron/Ore
Where the heck am I gonna get that?
I could reshuffle my workers and/or worksites. I have 16 Rare, 1 Epic, and 1 Legendary Natural Plots that have Shard Mines instead of the standard Grain Farms (eventually Logging Camp for the Legendary plot since it's a Swamp). If I switch those over to worksites that harvest natural resources, the Total BASE PP I would need to cover for my remaining Research and SPS would be reduced to 411,300 PP.
Great! But it still doesn't tell me where I can get the other natural resources.
Here is where my plots in other regions would come in. Currently, I have the following. I also understand that transporting resources from one region to another will incur transportation fees, but we'll ignore this for now for discussion purposes:
Doing the math, I would get:
- 162,375 Total BOOSTED PP for Wood
- 225,380 Total BOOSTED PP for Stone
- 171,980 Total BOOSTED PP for Iron/Ore
I guess production boosts are really important, huh.. But it's still not enough to cover all 411,300 BASE PP for Research and SPS plots. What do I do now?
As mentioned earlier, converting the Shard Mines of my 16 Rare Natural Plots into 13 Grain Farms and 3 Logging Camps could be an option. These plots currently have an average of 12,000 BOOSTED PP per plot. Same thing goes with my remaining Epic Bog that currently has 52,937.5 BOOSTED PP. This means I would have excess Grain (remember, I already am self-sustaining prior to Land 1.75) that I can trade for other resources to supplement the ones I can produce by myself. In the likely event that more resources are still required, I can convert some of my SPS into DEC, which I can then use to swap for the specific Resource I need.
I can also stake more DEC and Land Workers to populate other vacant plots I own for increased production OR choose to shut down some of my Research Huts and/or Shard Mines to further lower or even completely eliminate the demand for the needed additional resources.
Another option would be to rebuild my Research Huts into Grain Farms instead (my Magical Plots are Bogs and one is a River) or move those workers to my common plots and be a "Grain Specialist," focusing on and prioritizing Grain harvest and supply. These Magical Plots currently have a total BASE PP of 274,300, leaving me with only 137,000 BASE PP for my SPS plots that need to be covered by the Natural Resources. It only takes 24 hours to convert a building while taking workers off land would take 3 days before they are eligible to be assigned to plots again. Decisions, decisions.
Profit-wise, any excess natural resource will be deposited into their respective pools to provide liquidity. I can earn income from the fees charged from players swapping resources. The net SPS I earn from harvesting will be held and staked. Research, in case I continue this route, will also be stockpiled until there's a use case for it. Otherwise, I'll get more Grain which I can then add to the LP.
We will find out in the following days.
Land Ownership Predictions
I am a firm believer in Splinterlands Land, and I think that the current value of the common, natural plots or any plots in general won't be this low forever. People will eventually realize the scarcity and utility of this asset and will start scooping up plots off the market. Those who accumulate and build their land holdings now will thank themselves in the future. Doesn't matter if you farm your land or just sit on it - just like in real life, real estate increases in value especially when infrastructure or other amenities are built near or adjacent to it. In our case, this means future developments and programming to the Splinterlands Land ecosystem.
For future phases, more and more resources will be introduced, along with additional use cases of existing resources. I think there will be more demand for these resources which will then drive demand for land plots. The potential of requiring Storage units to keep your stockpile of resources also mean people would need more plots to build these buildings on. See the Storage section of the Whitepaper HERE.
Now, I can't predict what the actual price of the plots will be in the future. I just believe that the price will not stay like this forever. I have already established my holdings and though I would like to own more, I'm pretty happy with what I currently have. Remember, only 150,000 plots exist in all of Praetoria.
Let's see what the future has in store for us!
Summary
As you can see, I am very excited about the 1.75 update. I have been planning out my next steps for months! I even mapped out different scenarios on what my approach should be in case I decide to maintain collecting Research and SPS or pivot to just harvesting the basic resources like Grain, Wood, Stone, and Iron/Ore.
I don't see myself selling any of my plots in the near future. If anything, I will continue to build my holdings and expand my reach within Praetoria!
Just a friendly reminder. Don't forget to harvest your resources before the maintenance window on March 18th! It will be your last chance to collect Research and SPS, in case you have any plots producing so, before the need of additional resources is implemented!

wow! Hope it would be a success, though I only have 2 lands for now. Didn't get much time learning all the about it lol.
There's still time, bro! Lands are so cheap right now.
Great post! Very interesting and thorough, I learned quite a few things - and congrats on the 250 plots! That's only 50x what I have 😜
