Countering Eternal Tofu and Venka the Vile Combo
When it comes to people overusing a summoner in the Modern League few summoners come close to Eternal Tofu. Here I am detailing my strategy to counter Eternal Tofu Spam.
The BATTLE where I defeat Eternal Tofu team in Modern Diamond
Any battle where you can defeat Eternal Tofu is a pretty amazing battle, but here my opponent is also using Venka the Vile which could be pretty deadly if your tank doesn't have a force shield.
The Strategy
My strategy here is fairly simple:
- Pick big damage monsters
- Because mana cap is pretty high at 51 use some monsters with the Giant Killer ability
- Put up shields using Arkemis the Bear
The Ruleset
As we can see this is a fairly high mana ruleset so I am using Swamp Spitter. Swamp Spitter has a Giant Killer ability which would come in handy where he deals double damage to any monsters with more than ten points health and in a 51 mana lineup we are likely to encounter at least one of those...
Additionally Swamp Spitter comes with a repair ability that would become handy against Eternal Tofu thorns damage.
Another key monster is Arkemis the Bear because I noticed that my opponent likes using Venka the Vile. This common promo card is critical against both Venka the Vile and Eternal Tofu. Arkemis has a force shield so all the high damage monsters that have five or higher damage only deal one damage to Arkemis the Bear. Also Arkemis provides shield to our entire team which is also very important when countering Eternal Tofu summoner.
Additionally I am using high damage monsters such as Kulu Mastermind. Kulu Mastermind comes with a base damage of five, but it becomes particularly deadly when enraged and that is really likely to happen once it is hit back with thorns from Eternal Tofu equipped team.
Kulu Mastermind also has weapons training ability so he equips Noa the Just with Melee damage. We also have Pelacor Bandit which has four melee damage and high speed.
And last but not least we have Sea Stalker that does five ranged damage and has cleanse in case if our front monster becomes poisoned.
Let's see how my strategy worked here:
The Battle
In the first round our high damage monsters made pretty quick work of their taunt monster. Unfortunately our Arkemis the Bear is getting very low on health. Let's see how the second round will go:
In round two we lost our Arkemis the Bear, which is quite dangerous when you have three mega damage monsters on the opposing team. Let's hope that the speed and evasiveness of the Noa the Just will be enough to hold back these monster attackers!
Unfortunately our opponent didn't miss much in round three so we come into round four in a very precarious position:
We will strike first and take out their Venari Crystal Smith and will hit Venka, but it will not be enough to take Venka out and Venka will take out both of our remaining melee damage dealers.
Lets see what happens!
Round four was practically as predicted and now we just have to not miss with our ranged attacker:
And just like that we win against a higher ranked opponent using Eternal Tofu and Venka the Vile combo!

I think the Arkemis being taken out was how the Venka did a lot of damage, but I think you just managed to take this game away at the end. Good win
Thank you! Yes loosing Arkemis so fast was not part of my plan :)
Great game though, beating an elite summoner
