Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Commander Slade is a great tank

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Commander Slade.

Featured cards

Commander Slade is a water splinter that costs 10 mana. This card starts with the dodge and enfeeble ability). It learns deflect at level 4 and backfire at level 8. I don't use this card too often, but I have started to use it more after losing to it. I think it can be quite good, but my level on it isn't high enough level yet.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is High Five, Stampede, and Taking Sides. This means that only up to 5 monsters can be used, trample monsters continue until they don't kill a unit, and no neutral units can be used. There are also 40 mana available, and I can choose any splinter except for life.

I use Possibilus the Wise as my summoner for the +2 health, reach, and trample. In my first spot is Commander Slade as my tank. After that is Coastal Sentry with double strike to take advantage of the reach. Daigendark Surveyor is a backup tank with magic reflect, and it gains magic damage due to Daarg Deadblast's weapons training. Daarg also has swiftness to boost my speed, and my last monster is Noa the Just. Noa will remove 2 armor from all opponents and can attack due to weapons training.

I take advantage of the ruleset to use Coastal Sentry combined with Possibilus because that trample can be quite deadly. Other than that, my focus is more on trying to deal damage and take out my opponent before he can take me out. The switfness and rust will help my melee monsters kill faster.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. I don't like that tank that my opponent has and the level disadvantage is rough. My opponent has a bit more damage than I and I fear his strong sneak monster combined with that scattershot monster. I still think that I am not too far off in speed, though.

Round 3

round 3.png
My opponent lost 2 monsters while I haven't lost any. I was quite lucky as Slade dodged every single attack that came at it, and Noa also dodged an attack in the back. At this point, my backline has taken some damage, but I think this is my win. There won't be much my opponent can do when Slade is still at full power unless I miss a ton of attacks.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later, as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time played out how I wanted it to. Given the ruleset, Commander Slade was such a great tank, and to the very end of the battle, it never took any damage. It dodged every single attack that came at it. The rest of my monsters did a good job of supporting my other monsters and dealing damage. So there wasn't much my opponent could do once his tank went down. I was worried due to the level disadvantage, but it didn't matter this time around.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I really like this card, the only issue is it suffers mage attacks and goes down fairly quickly against it

Yea. It goes down quite fast when against magic attacks, but there are a few good healers to help it live a bit longer. It does have a decent HP pool so unless its completely overwhelmed, it should be fine.

I think you placed the cards very strategically. The card in first position didn't just work as a tank, it had some missed attack attempts on it, and it was crucial to you winning the game.

Yea. It didn't take a single point of damage this fight. The Dodge when combined with its speed makes it a very useful tank.

I think this is still my favorite reward card from the current set. Putting him behind Torhillo the Frozen in wild has been my go to team setup, and behind Giant Alpine Skink with Possibilus the Wise was my go to last season.

Oh, that sounds like a decent strategy. You are protecting the card against magic monsters with Torhilo in front.

yepp and it would work even better with swamp spitter just to slow the physical damage, or in weak magic rule set games.
