Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: My Experience On Campaign Mode!
Hello! This post is for Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge. Splinterlands has recently added Campaign Mode to the game, which is like a tutorial to game. In this post, I will be discussing about what my experience was in the Community Engagement Challenge, and the benefits of it.
If you go to PLAY - CAMPAIGN, you can see this page. Only Book 1 is revealed right now, and Book 2 is coming soon. If you haven't played them, you can go to this page and play them right now.
Playing
Book 1 Currently has 11 Chapters.
- Introduction
- Card Types - Archons(Summoners) and Units
- Melee - Only can attack on 1st
- Ranged - Can't attack on 1st
- Armor - Armor soaks melee & Ranged Damage
- Speed - Attack Order & Hit Chance
- Magic - Attack on any position, can't miss, ignore armor
- Ability - Ability
- Mana - Cost of playing
- Element - Limitation of cards usage
- Modifiers - Game Ruleset
Overall, I think these are really good choices for beginners, since Splinterlands now has diverse gameplay, even when excluding others like Land. Especially, Chapter 6 and Chapter 8 seems important for me, because Speed is hard to understand as a beginner, and there are various abilities out there to be used. Additionally, The last few chapters are essential for preparation of ranked play.
Experience
I had a very good experience playing those modes. Even if I already knew almost all of these aspects, it was a very refreshing journey to go back and feel like a beginner again. There was also one chapter teaching about swapping your team slots, and that was very interesting to experience. It was really fun, and I think the new players will also enjoy it.
Additionally, the 100 Glint and few cards definitely makes these experiences great, as it gives a sense of accomplishment, and you can also buy some common draws using it.
Cards
After finishing each chapter, you get 100 Glint and "Foundation" Cards. These cards are serving as starter cards, but it is also different. Here is a table that shows some differences.
Starter Cards | Foundation Cards | |
---|---|---|
SPS & Glint | Cannot Earn | Can Earn |
Use | Modern | Any Format |
Buying | Can be bought | Cannot be bought |
Earning | Free | Playing Tutorial (Free) |
Summoners | Yes (~4 Mana) | Yes (6 Mana) |
Elements | All | Except Dragon |
Set | Core Set | Standalone Set (Foundation) |
Mainly, the difference is that you can actually earn by playing the cards. Some other major differences are that these cards cannot be bought, and can be played in any formats.
Here is the current cards that can be obtainable by playing:
The most interesting thing to be found is the 6 Mana Water Summoner, which gives +1 Magic. This makes it the most powerful archon out of all. Additionally, all non-attacking cards can't be trainable, which is also interesting. Although I think a few of these are kind of weak, mostly it is a nice set for beginners playing around in Bronze & Level 1 level.
Opinion
I definitely believe that you should play those to start collecting your Foundation Cards to begin earning Glints and SPS! You can start accumulating rewards right away, after staking some SPS, of course. But, In Phase 2, the Foundation Cards will become tradable, and it would be also combinable. This is very important for most of old players, who is mostly trying to perform well in higher leagues.
Also, Campaign Mode has lots of benefits. For starters, you can learn basic game by playing it. Although it would be hard at the first place, by playing more ranked, people will later get the grasp of it. Another is that it provides a great starting point for new players. It teaches the fundamentals of Splinterlands before getting into ranked battles, where experienced players dominate. Campaign Mode covers everything, and it is very good for basic understanding in my opinion.
Overall, I think that this update is a big win for beginners. Previously, using starter cards in ranked battles meant receiving reward penalties. With Foundation Cards, players can start earning and enjoy the game right away.
Conclusion
And that is my opinion on the campaign mode! I really think that it is a good update for Splinterlands, which mostly are old players, to get some new players joining. This would make the community and the game more diverse and active.
