Today marks the 172nd anniversary of the birth of the Apostle José Martí. I have always considered myself a Martí woman and have been guided by his teachings over the years. I have transmitted his words, his wisdom to my children and now I would like to do so with you with some of his phrases and maxims for life.

Here Martí spoke of the need to not go around telling people about the plans of the Cuban revolution. But we can understand revolution as all the change that we can and must create for our society. It is not correct to go around shouting to the four winds the good that we are going to do, but we must do it in silence and for the benefit of the majority.
Doing good for everyone and without expecting anything in return.
Helping those in need is not only part of duty, but of happiness.
This thought of Martí is related to the previous one. We must feel happy when we do a good deed, when we provide help to someone in need. We must be happy because helping is sharing, distributing and creating happiness.

El único autógrafo digno de un hombre es el que deja escrito con sus obras.
Lo que escribimos es lo que somos, es nuestra firma. Ustedes se hacen una idea de mí a través de lo que leen, de mis palabras.
