A Rematch With The scrunchies
Hello lovely people✨
It's yet another #needleworkmonday and a great day to share our needlework with fellow needlework lovers. For today, I would be sharing three crochet materials that I made over the weekend.
Two weeks ago, I came across a post by the dearest crosheille where she displayed some of her crochet patterns in preparation for the holiday art market. Amongst these materials were beautiful lacey scrunchies. Seeing her scrunchies reminded me of the fact that scrunchies were one of the very first things I tried making when I began my crochet journey and the first scrunchie I made came out looking like something else😅.
After that, I never tried making scrunchies again but I tried making other crocheted accessories. With the right motivation from crosheille, I decided to give the scrunchies a rematch and not just a single rematch but a triple rematch. In comparison to the first scrunch I made, I would say that there has been an amazing improvement. Yes?
Materials
To make the scrunchies, I used
- Yarn
- Crocheting pin
- Yarn needle.
- A pair of scissors
- Determination:)
The first scrunchy I made was with purple and pink yarn. I used the single crochet, half double crochet and slip stitches to make this scrunchie. The idea to add the pink yarn at the edge was as a result of variation. I wanted to make something simple but different. I do not know if I successfully attained this goal.
I have seen a lot of people with this type of scrunchy and it usually looks really nice on their hair. Immediately I finished making this particular scrunchy, I used it to tie my hair up and it did the job perfectly.

The second scrunchy and my favourite of the trio was made using blue yarn. There is something intriguing about this shade of blue. This scrunchy has three parts to it. The part with the band, the bow and the bow's legs (I think a better name would be ribbon).

I made the three parts separately and I coupled them using a piece of yarn. To reiterate, this is my favourite because the design is unique. I haven't seen a lot of people with this type of hair tie/ scrunchie and as such, I'm probably going to wear this scrunchy till it gets tired of me😅.
The third and final one was an attempt to salvage the mistake I made over six months ago. For this scrunchie, I used the half double crochet stitch all through. While making this scrunchy, I finally realized the mistake I made the first time. It turns out that during my first trial, when I got to the part where the rubber band became tight, I just worked over the band and in the end, the band was showing outside the scrunchy. Just like @crosheille said, I worked in the wrong direction. Took me so long to realize:)
Scrunchies are perfect for people who have hair, especially when the weather becomes unbearably hot. You could easily tie up you hair with a beautiful scrunchy and you're good to go. Now, I have three scrunchies but I have a feeling that I would make more because I totally enjoyed making them.
In comparison to the first scrunch I made, do you think there has been an improvement? Is there anything I missed out this time? I would totally love to hear your suggestions and criticism. Thank you for your time and have an amazing Monday☺️.
With love, wongi ✨

These models of pigtails are beautiful, my favorite was blue, I congratulate my friend, they turned out very well, happy sewing Monday 🤗
Thank you very much. Glad you like that one too.
These are soooo yummy, dear @wongi !! I MUST make some hair accessories, and these inspire me a lot! Maybe I can make material versions, as I don't know much about crocheting... yet! 😍
It would be really nice if you also venture into crocheting ☺️.
And yes, the material versions of scrunchies are always really beautiful. Especially if the materials are silky. I would love you see your version of the scrunchies 😍☺️
I am glad that you found the right inspiration to do these beautiful scrunches again. I love the pink one in particular.
Im glad you liked that one. Thank you so much for coming around ✨
Wait! So not only did you redeem yourself from your first attempt but you also aced two more versions as well?!! Wow @wongi, you just keep showing us how determined you are.
These are so cute! I was actually thinking about trying one with a bow as those are very popular right now, nice work! I love the purple one with the hdc stitches. It looks similar to the ones I’m working on.
So glad you took on the challenge and now you know you love making these. Kudos to you dear friend. Whoo Hoo!!! 🤩👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'm glad I could challenge myself thanks to you☺️
Many people seem to like the one with the bow so making it may actually have a greater advantage.
