Upcycling Leftover Fabric into a Matching Kimono Blouse

Hello dear lovely creators, I hope your day is already going as expected, the weather hass been windy and cool over here, I guess they call it August break, where the shy threatens to rain, but not a single drop is seen throughout the day, somehow I like this weather, except ofcourse, we have to put on warm clothing outdoors so as not to catch a cold.

Since I'm indoors today, I decided to make something out of the leftover fabric after making a short. I somehow fell in love with the fabric more and wondered why it took me so long to make something useful out of it. The feel on the skin is so soft; if it wasn't faded, I'd probably make it more than an indoor outfit.

Today, I'm excited to share with you how I made a matching blouse to go with the shorts I previously made. This outfit can even double for a short-sleeved pyjama and shorts, because of how soothing it feels on the skin.

It's a kimono or what some call a cut-together sleeve blouse, and all I needed to make it was my sewing machine and a matching coloured thread.

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by cutting out the front pattern with a round neck. As I stated earlier, the bodice of the blouse is cut together with the sleeve.

  • Then using the font pattern, I trace the back pattern but with a different neckline, as the back neckline is not as deep as the front, also on fold, the width of the neckline is 3.5 inches, while the front depth is y inches, the back is one inch, I won't be adding any zipper to the back, with this neckline measurement, it can easily pass through my head.

  • Next, I cut out some pieces of the fabric in bias form, then used it to pipe the neckline of the front and back. I also hemmed the sleeve ends neatly

  • Continuing, I joined the front and back cut-out pattern by the shoulders first,

  • Then, I finally joined them by the sides with the seam allowance of one inch given, I also hemmed the blouse ends neatly, to avoid split ends, and I interlocked all rough ends. And that completes the making process of this kimono blouse.

It takes creativity and skills to make something out of left over fabric. It is beautiful and elegant. It is comfortable to wear. Great work!
