Promise Fulfilled, Kimono Jacket with a twist of side ruffles
Blessed day to you all lovely creators on Hive, I hope we are all having a good day. I'm feeling happy today as my exams just started and my first paper happened to be so easy, I am happy I did well, and hopeful to get a good result.
Also, finally, I get to fulfill a promise made to my younger sister last month, have you ever made a promise to someone and found it difficult to meet up with, thereby feeling guilty about it, one good or maybe pressing part of knowing how to sew is that I'm constantly in debt to family and friends, and I'm not referring to money, but new dresses, trust me, I make one dress for one person, then I have to make for another, and the circle continues, being the eldest out of four sisters, I'm not complaining about it though, rather, I feel happy to be able to meet their needs in this aspect, but sometimes being a student, mum, coupled with my job often get in the way of giving me enough spare time to meet the clothing needs, what I do now is making the best use of my free period to meet these needs, especially when it isn't a project that takes too much time or days to finish.
I shared in this community a dress I had made for my mum for her birthday and had leftover fabric of about 2 yards which I had promised to make something for my sister, I finally put the fabric to good use, making a Kimono jacket with side ruffles, a style she had taken liken to when I made the blouse form for a friend. It is a very easy-to-make jacket and took me about 2 hours to get it completed, with other in-between mummy activities.
Materials Used
- Ankara fabric
- Matching colored thread
Cutting and Sewing Process
- I started by folding the fabric into four, then drafted directly on fabric, it's a cut-together sleeve gown pattern
- Opening it up, I separated the front from the back, then changed the front neckline to a V-neck, slashing and opening up the center.
- Next, I folded in around the opened front and back neckline, also folded the sleeve hem and joined the front and back by the shoulders.
- Continuing, I joined them by the sides and folded the hem of the dress.
- To create the side ruffles, I cut out four strips of about 30 inches in length and made loops out of them.
- Opening the side seams, I sewed it up creating a casing to about 15 inches, and passed the loops in each casing.
And that completes the making process of the Kimono jacket with side ruffles, my sister was happy to receive her new jacket, and I'm at least relieved of the promise I made, and also happy to have finally fulfill my promise. Till next time, enjoy the rest of your day.
