Making Baggy Trousers for Kids: A Fun Sewing Project
Blessed new week dear lovely creators on hive, I hope we are all doing great wherever you are, it's another interesting Needleworkmonday and I am more than excited to share with you all my latest sewing project, also looking forward to reading all the wonderful posts already coming in.
There is that pure joy you get seeing a happy smile on our child's face especially after fulfilling a promise to them, their genuine happiness and gratefulness is nothing compared to the little gift you offer them, which is one of the reasons I love working with children's clothing a lot, and also because due to their small size it often take less of everything, from the fabric and time used to get theirs done compared to if i was making same outfit for an adult.
Baggy trousers are one of the trendy fashions in my country right now, worn by girls and women of all ages, because it is stylish and also provide so much comfort to us compared to wearing fitted pants. It can be paired with the same fabric top, black or white fitted top just like my little models did theirs. The short story behind this trouser is that they have been disturbing their mother to get them these trendy pants, you know how children can be persistent. We finally got them a pack of Kampala fabric which I used in making it for them instead of buying the ready-made ones which are usually more expensive, To think that making these baggy trousers isn't even so complicated.
Without further ado let's get right into the making process.
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by cutting the front trouser pattern and also shaped the pocket out.
- Using the front pattern, I added extra ease allowance which made the back bigger than the front, then I cut out the back pattern as well
- Continuing, I also cut out the pocket pattern, two pieces for each side of the trousers.
- Then I joined the pocket pattern pieces to the sides of both the front and back trouser pieces before sewing the sides of the trousers down, and I also sewed the inseam area
- Then I cut out the waistband, which I created a case in, and passed an elastic through it to help firm up the waist of the trousers.
And that completes the making process of these trousers.
Rejoice and her sister were so happy to finally own a pair of baggy trousers, and posed around showing them off. It was indeed a fulfilling project.
