Being the only seamstress in my family at the moment, it can get overwhelming for me sometimes, in a good way though, picture this, if I make a dress for one family member, another will be on my neck right immediately, so i'm always mentally and physically prepared.

I had made a beautiful birthday dress for my youngest sister last month, which I also shared in this community, and that dress immediately caught the attention of my cousin sister, who is also the same age as my youngest sister. Not that I didn't make her a dress for her birthday early this year, in her protest, she wants a similar dress of ankara combined with chantilly net, and also because she has to attend the wedding ceremony of a friend, I know there was no way I could win her argument, so I let her rant to her satisfacttion, giving me a puppy eyes at he end of it all.

I had to promise to get hers done soon, and that soon had me receiving a daily good morning WhatsApp message lol. I finally had the time to visit my parent today, as she also lives th them, and had her fit her beautifully made ankara dress combined with Chantilly lace. Although I made a significant difference to her dress style, as hers had an off-the-shoulder sleeve and also long flared sleeves, she was all filled with joy, and I was happy to fulfill this big sister duty.

Without further ado, let's get right into the making process

Materials Used

  • Ankara fabric

  • Chantilly lace

  • Lining fabric

  • matching coloured thread

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I didn't have any pattern drafting paper left at home, so I drafted directly on the fabric, a bustier pattern for the front and a basic back pattern

  • I separated the yoke using the chantilly lace, and the ankara fabric for the base

  • I also did the same for the back, and cut all their lining pattern pieces as well

  • Next I joined the pattern pieces of both the front and back and turned them in neatly using their lining pattern pieces

  • For the lower part of the dress, I cut out a straight skirt pattern, which I also turned using its lining pattern fabric

  • Continuing, I joined the upper and lower parts of the dress at the waist area.

  • Next I attached the off-the-shoulder sleeves and also the 2-in-1 long sleeve and flared hem sleeve.

Haha, I had to laugh at the daily WhatsApp good morning messages you get as a reminder. I can relate to that. The pressure is real when you're the family’s fashion designer!
The end result is so beautiful. Well-done 💯
